Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- HalyconDaysGreater London, UK652 contributionsWe visited this pub during our short midweek holiday break in Broadstairs. This is reputedly smallest brew pub in Britain and it is small. Excellent beers friendly welcome. It is only open from 4.30 on weekdays so we could not visit lunchtime. It is definitely worth visiting asc it istather uniqueWritten 28 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Cidrman230664 contributionsI stay in Ramsgate for three days and come on the bus (only 15 mins) at night to eat and drink. Any visitor should make time for The Chapel, with its book lined walls its got bags of character, looks like its been here since the 19th century. As a real cider lover its a cider heaven with 20 boxes, about half apple cider, half so-called fruit cider. Only reason I can't award five stars is that you need bags of money, at ÂŁ2.80 a half it's considerably dearer than other Broadstairs cider pubs, The Magnet, Mind the Gap, and The Royston. On holiday, money's no object but if I were local I wouldn't drink here that often. And check beforehand when they are open, opening times seem a bit unpredictable.Written 26 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BluesshakeoutEastbourne, UK47 contributionsWe had a great time with good beer, and ciders, all served by a friendly, bagged barman who was happy to tell us Broadstairs stories and make our eveningWritten 7 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DcpfcKent, UK103 contributionsQuirky town centre pub - it’s small but clearly doing something right as it was the busiest pub in that vicinity. Customers were polite and chatty whilst the staff were nonstop serving a selection of beers. Overall a very good welcoming atmosphere.Written 17 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- lwilson291Sible Hedingham, UK20 contributionsNice pub but appeared very much a locals pub. Did not appear very friendly. Nobody in the bar spoke to meWritten 1 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

There were so many different vegetables, which were all sourced within a few miles of the pub. Also the pub is dog friendly. Jonny even came out and gave the dog some leftover meat. Jonny and his team are doing an incredible job. I can't believe Jonny can cook such amazing roast in a pizza oven. We don't live close but can't wait to come back!Written 15 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We visited the Lanthorne a few times to while away a few hours in their lovely garden after walking into Broadstairs, Botney Bay and Ramsgate. The safety measures were really good, hand santiser on the door, name/contact number taken at the bar and one way system through the pub. The bar maid was really approachable and friendly...talked me through the good selection of gins they had. Well worth visiting on a sunny afternoon.Written 26 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

We only had drinks, but we're made very welcome.
Situated almost on the harbour wall so ideal for an outside drink.
Extensive menu available.

We were lucky enough to get a table by an open window so could watch the world go by. Clean toilets which is always a bonus. We had just missed the band that was playing so it was very quiet for our visit which was good for us as we were chatting.Written 13 August 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Triple_LKent, UK242 contributionsGreat local place to come and watch the football. A lot of people here had small children so it's definitely child friendly. Good atmostphere here too, nice and warm. And you can vape, as long as it's not huge clouds, that's still pretty cool though.Written 10 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GayleUKLondon, UK549 contributionsFine for drinks with a dog mid-coastal walk. Feels a bit like a Spoons vibe - working man’s club system at the bar !
