What travellers are saying
- angelo vBologna, Italy21 contributionsDiestis a tipical belgian village, with pubs and restourants. around there, there's nothing so if you need to have dinner, diest is the best solution. I ate a delicius gulash in a strange pub call it "Casino" or something. I was expecting something like roulet and poker table but at the end it was a restourant with draft beers and the waiters was really friendly and kind.Written 14 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MRshurikBrussels, Belgium12 contributionsJust a few steps from the city center, overlooking the city, you can find peace & quiet around the former army barracks of the citadel. It is a truly beautiful place, and oh so quiet. Except on the few days that local art organizations take over the citadel. Then it changes into a buzzing art hotspot, giving you the chance to visit the inside of the citadel as well. For the pragmatic visitor: park your car in the free parking space of the citadel, walk around for a bit, and descend into the city (only 200m to the central market space).Written 19 June 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - paul sBrussels, Belgium510 contributionsA rather plump construction from the outside and lacking a tower, the interior is beautiful and certainly worth a visit when you come to Diest, contains beautiful sculpture and the tomb of Filips Willem price of Orange (of the Netherlands).Written 1 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It also doubled as a tithe barn, hence its name, Spijker," derived from the Latin word "spicarium" (granary). It has been in private hands since the French Revolution. The red-brick Spijker dates from the 16th century but was expanded in the 17th century. Today, extensively restored and spruced up, it houses a hotel.Written 3 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
