Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A very lovely, very trendy bar on the breakwater that juts out from the Otranto seafront. Its location means that special attention must be paid to what you are wearing. On a blisteringly warm evening at the height of summer, the cooling sea breezes will be welcome. On a slightly cooler evening early autumn, you may need to consider a warm sweater or light jacket - we wish we had! Whatever the weather though, Maestrale is a very pleasant place to while away a few hours, sipping on some excellent cocktails, or enjoying a bottle of wine. Speaking of wine, on one occasion we did try and raise the bar, by ordering a bottle of Ca’del Bosco but they had run out, so settled for a very good, (not to mention less expensive), bottle of Prosecco.

The location is superb, the cocktails are delicious, the service attentive. Bar Maestrale was probably the “hippest” place we visited in and could be your perfect place to enjoy a cocktail in Otranto.

the place is nice near a beautiful view of Otranto, but it is a passing place so you are in the chaos of tourists. Cocktails are average but the price is a little higher than average.

Nice small bar which is good for an apres or post dinner drink as you watch the world go by. Nothing exceptional to say other then a pleasant place with reasonable service and average prices.

Better to view La Cambusa as a place to sample the excellent selection of wines from the producer Cantele, rather than a “regular” wine bar. I’m perfectly happy with this situation but there are a couple of things you need to be aware of.

The first is a lack of the stuff you may like to nibble on, when tasting the range. When I pressed the matter, the knowledgeable young man dispensing the wine merely said that any “nibbles” would be located on the shelves. Directing my gaze toward biscuits, (savoury and sweet), and other tourist orientated fodder, that were for sale. I bought some locally produced savoury biscuits that were labelled as “Cheese flavoured” but were a little dry and tasteless. Again, not a problem but I’m just making future visitors aware of the situation.

Second, was the somewhat puzzling attitude of the young chap, when it came to “abandoning his post” as it were. As the wines for the first of our tasting was being poured, he informed me that I would have to take them to the table myself, as they did not operate “table-service”. Fair enough, he was on his own and to leave the desk unmanned could create problems. It was no hardship, as our table, (read barrel), was literally a couple of steps away. However, security or table-service matters were abandoned, when he came out to hold a conversation with a group of young Italians, to offer some tasting advice. Would helping me out, by carrying my savoury biscuits, (both hands were carrying our wine), really have resulted in a security breach?

These are niggling criticisms and were totally overshadowed by the excellent range of wine and the pleasant view of Otranto castle from our seats. Given the choice between a glass or two in La Cambusa, or the misanthropic duo at the bar next door - it simply has to be La Cambusa!
