Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In the basilica beautiful floor mosaic as well as nice ceilings. In the crypt many frescoes.
Be aware it closes for siesta, 12 pm - 3 pm.

Otranto appeared as one of the best surprises on our week long Puglia tour, as we didn't expect much of it.
The town is compact and very cute. Tiny winding streets hide numerous bars, restaurants and local artisan shops. A must see is the Cathedral with amazing floor mosaic.
DO NOT forget your swim suits. The beaches beneath the old town walls are literally postcard like - crystal clear turquoise sea in a shallow bay. We left ours in our rented car, but it wasn't hard for me to walk 20 min back to take them in order to have a swim.

I’d like us you’re driving along the coast, stop and have a look at the light house at Punts Palascia.

This is open, no longer ‘temporarily closed’, and is worth seeing for the authentic old painted walls. Open today from 4.30 pm, and possibly also open during some of the morning.

The Aragonese Castle in Otranto was built during the Spain rule in late 15 c. It occupies a commanding position above the old town protecting the harbor entrance. It's a classic turret castle with a moat around it.
Great views of the old town and entire bay from the tower.

This was our most loved experience in Otranto. We got there by car (a couple minutes from Otranto), but you can easily go with a bike. The lighthouse is secluded and spectacular and the little alley going into the sea is simply food for eyes.

Wandering about the historic center of the city we noticed an exhibition being held in the Torre Matta. It was about recreating the icons from old frescoes and mosaics. It was all in Italian so we only understood bits and pieces but along with gestures meaning specific things, there is also a ratio between the various aspects of the face.

The tower like the walls is built sturdily with thick walls. Beautiful views of the sea can be seen out the small windows.

Very nice church, beautiful mosaics, and chapel with sculls behind glass .At this moment they were restoring the inside , so avoid busy times so you can enjoy what this monument has to offer .

Porta Alfonsina is the sea side gate to Otranto old town (the inland gate is by the Aragonese Castle).
It's named after the Aragonese leader Alfonso who liberated the region from the Turkish occupation. Passing the gate you enter the magnificent old town area with the must see Cathedral.

This church is very special, and the feeling inside is something you should try. They make a ceremonial in September, I miss it but I won't in the future.

Placed inside the town of Otranto, close to the shoreline and not on a hill, the castle still dominates the area. It is a massive building with huge round towers, made of grey stone. Unfortunately, I could only admire its exterior.

A lovely, light-filled little crypt. The best part is the interesting remains of medieval(?) frescoes, of which there are quite a few.

The monument is on a square overlooking the Adriatic. A very picturesque place to relax and enjoy the sea air.
