Fenghuang (Phoenix) Ancient Town is probably the most beautiful town in China and definitely a must-visit tourist attraction on your Zhangjiajie itinerary.
Weather in March can vary from cold 6-7 deg Celsius in the morning and goes up to 16-17 deg Celsius in the afternoon. Layered dressing with warm jacket is recommended.Written 15 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Just imagine 6 km of lighted with different colours corridors, stone stairs and enormous halls of more than 100 m high. And these are under the surface. Add a wide river, gorgeous stalactites and stalagmites and wipe off people (I don’t know why but we counted just 8 tourists inside during our 3h visit). Some part of the cave was not lighted (lights were off, but not prohibited to move further) and it was funny to play the spellologist. But then we understood that it was easy to get lost in the dark and after a half a km we turned back to the light. Great experience.Written 28 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- KodoDrummerBuenos Aires, Argentina65,207 contributionsThe street on both sides of the river are awesomely beautiful, but very commercialized as would be expected of a high tourist area. Of the tourists, less than 1% were westerners. The vast majority wore masks.Written 3 May 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KodoDrummerBuenos Aires, Argentina65,207 contributionsIts name was given to it because a portion of the mountain shape looks similar to an elephant drinking water. I've seen similar looking rocks in Australia and the UK.Written 23 May 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - kitty032110 contributionsI went to Guizhou last summer vacation with my family. It was sunny and hot,so we decided to go to Fenghuang Ancient City. Most of the houses in this place are by the water. There is a wider river in the middle, which divides the ancient city into two halves.
Because the river surrounds, this place is cooler and suitable for summer.
We went around the water for a while to go to the snack street, Guizhou snacks are delicious, My father and I ate two Guizhou zongzi, dipped in sugar taste very good!
In the afternoon, we went boating by the river,It was so exciting! In the middle of the river we could see antique buildings on both sides. Half of the houses were on land and the other half were supported by wood on the surface of the water. It was very strange.
In the evening, we went to see the night view of the ancient city. The lights were very spectacular, every house was very bright, there was a huge tower-shaped lamp in the middle of the river, and there would be local country music on the side of the road. It was beautiful! I really enjoyed the day in the Ancient City!Written 11 March 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
