My wife and I spent some time wandering around the Promenade Park and Hythe Quay area of Maldon on a recent visit. We were staying in town for a short birthday break and the walk from Maldon town centre was easy to navigate - we headed there via Church Street, down the hill and past the Jolly Sailor and its twisted chimney, and wandered back to town via the museum in the park and Mill Road (as the slope back uphill is much more gradual than the steeper Church Road route).

The park has plenty to do, both for children or those who just want to stroll and enjoy the coastal views and the pretty Marine Lake. We stopped at a kiosk and enjoyed a hot drink and biscuit, which was a pleasant way to spend 15 minutes or so. The park has special memories for us as we visited it on our first date over 20 years earlier.

Very pretty part of the Essex coast - well worth a visit.

Allow plenty of time!! Parking can be awkward, but the museum itself is a real hidden gem! The building is a real 'Tardis', with floors of historic uniforms, weapons, armour and spyware including clandestine radios and some real 'James Bond' gadgets.

Really enjoyed visiting however the downside was that there were no public toilets. Badly needed as visitors don't all want to visit one of the two pubs and have to buy drinks etc in order to use their facilities

I have been in the building industry for over 50 years so Moot Hall’s brickwork especially the reversed spiral staircase was of great interest.
The tour guides Susan & Jackie painted a wonderful picture of the history associated with the building and surrounding area.
They also pointed out the graffiti left by prisoners in the exercise yard , the flintlock rifle was of particular interest.
I was also impressed with the oak furniture dragons head armrest to chair, & the Medullary Ray oak grain to table reserved for the finest furniture.
The view from roof was spectacular and the ladies were a font of knowledge on the surrounding buildings.
    Many thanks

Small museum over 2 floors run by a group of volunteers. Lots of things to see and read about the local area and people through the centuries. Really well set out in small rooms.
A very reasonable admission charge is made.

I spent a lovely weekend in the Glashouse at the beginning of Sept.
Beauty surroundings. Had a relaxing walk along the river watching the boats go past.
Hot tub was an added bonus (even though it was a little too cold for me)
Next time will take a flat sheet for the beds as a fitted sheet was too small.

Hidden gem of a hike! Beautiful sights over towards Mersey and lots of birds to look at as you wonder round, took about 2.5 hrs to do the loop

We went to visit this Island as my father in law was born there many years ago as his family rented the farm. However on the day we went, there was some conservation work being done for the water voles, so sadly we could only walk to the wardens house and back. It was a nice walk to the island from Maldon though, about an 8.2k round trip. Walking over the causeway was great too but don't forget you need to message the warden first to get a permission email to visit and also, check the tide times!

A simple quiet haven, very helpful staff. Well worth a visit. Its up a short narrow winding stair. Researchers are wellcome as are tourists, a donation is helpful. I would like to spend a day here quietly reading

I have visited this beautiful church quite a few times now, because it is so peaceful inside & has many items, artifacts & memorials of interest within its walls. This church can be found near the top of the High Street & is well worth a visit.

I've been meaning to visit this museum since moving locally a year ago, wow I'm pleased I did! It's brilliant, really informative and full of interactive exhibits. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. I was lucky enough to see the main exhibit in action which is a real treat. The cafe serves amazing cake and sandwiches, I'd recommend the egg mayo and cream tea! I cannot fault this place one bit and will certainly be back! A brilliant way to spend a glorious sunny afternoon.
