Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An impressive and unusual statue of the Madonna and Child with a superb view over the South Uist countryside. As others have pointed out, it could do with a clean!

If you don't like religious statues, it's still worth the short drive up from the road just for the view. By the way, do drive up to the statue - there is parking and it is far safer than parking on the main road.

A gentle start lulls you into a false sense of security. Holes 7 through to 16 are some of the best laid out holes you will ever play. Hole 11 at 197 yards is a beauty. A tee and a green and only the machair in-between. What a belter. If you play in spring or early summer, the sound of corncrakes is everywhere. You'll never see them though ☺

The best thing about a visit to the church is it's setting .

So beautiful in the machair and close to a fantastic beach and river .

The visit inside the church doesn't take very long as it is very small.

Some information boards are good to read and give you an insight in to the nearby remains of religious buildings dating back thousands of years!

These are really fascinating and great for those loving photography.

Toilets are available inside the church and parking outside.

I am far from sure it was worth looking for as the site is not clear. However, once there the information about Flora MacDonald was informative. There really needs to be an upgrade of it as it needs improved as it is difficult in parts to read due to the weather.

Many reviewers have been disappointed by Ormacleit Castle, but they are missing the historical importance of the place. It was one of the very few stone-built castles in the Outer Hebrides, built in the 18th century. Many similar ruins have been "sanitized" for the tourist industry, but surely it is a good idea to leave some just as they are? Don't miss the superb view from the castle towards the hills.

What a marvellous and unexpected find! Absolutely beautiful wee shop, stuffed full of quirky and affordable artworks, ornaments, hats, ships in bottles, Wally dugs, glasswork… I haven’t listed everything as there is such a varied amount of beautiful things in such a small space! Lovely helpful people too!

Pobull Fhinn stone circle is not in the Callanish class but is well worth a visit if you are in the area - and the short walk to it from Langass Lodge has some first-class views of Loch Eport. Once you find some of the standing stones, it is easy to trace out the whole circle.

Wildlife boat tour. Fascinating to see the nest of golden eagles and prancing dolphins surfacing all around us. All that and generous numbers of seals, gulls and cormorants.
Oh and add in a ruined castle and stunningly beautiful sandy beaches on deserted islands. Local man David Steele who runs and skippers this small company knew exactly where to take us and how best to approach each spot to increase the chances of wildlife appearing and staying around.
The comfortable powerful boat has space for about 12 people and is a world away from less than exciting excursion boats in seaside towns, with commentary from a tape or a bored crew member who has said the same inauthentic phrases tens of thousand times before.
We were in good company and very safe hands on this tour between Eriskay, Barra, and South Uist. We saw and learned much in the space of just two hours. Our appetite is definitely whetted for a longer excursion next time.

This has been the most amazing day. Kate is extremely knowledgeable and personable, bringing to life structures from the past, that we had driven past and not realised there purpose and significance. She was delighted to answer the boys (17 & 14 year old) questions. We saw a burial mount from 5000 years ago, explored a bronze age roundhouse, an iron age fort and a monastery dating from 900AD.
She had images with her to show what the structures looked like when in use, we discussed the facts of archiology digs and then some discussion about possible significance. A truly amazing day. Thank you so much!

Lovely small shop with an assortment of items for sale to suit all budgets. Young lady in the shop was very helpful.
There is fresh water and toilets next to the shop.
