Arakawa is an old part of Tokyo and worthy of a look as it is different to the more modern parts of the city. Access is easy by train. Yuyake Dandan leads to Yanaka Shopping Street which is narrow with many small stalls and shops and different.

This was the most impressive of the four temples on the hill at the west exit of Nippori Station. This one has a small cemetery and a well-mainteined garden near the temple. You will find it at the top of the hill behind a wooden gated entrance. There is some English signage.

As there are not cafes near the Nippori station, I’ve found it very convenient to meet with my friend in Ecute, which is inside the station.

This temple has a red gate which is called Niomon and is reputed to have been built in the 18th century. Once through the gate you will see two statues which are of the heavenly kings. These statues are from the 12th century and are called Jikokuten and tamonten. Interesting to look at if you are not completely over temples and shrines.

This was a temple set back from the road in well maintained gardens. It dates back to 1648 and has an old tree on unknown age although it may have been defined in Japoanese.

This bridge is right at the train station and provides and expansive view of the numerous train lines below and there were numerous people watching the trains. You will probably cross this bridge as you exut the train station and visit the historic area of Nippori. Watch the trains if that is what clicks your button. This bridge has some history but I could not find what it was.
