We booked a lunch and wine tasting for a group of 40 of our friends and family while travelling together prior to our wedding nearby. We unanimously decided that this was one of the best experiences of our entire trip (if not the best), and I cannot recommend the experience enough. The food was excellent, the wine was excellent - a great range to suit every palate, the service was excellent and very personal - delivered by the Count of Petit-Thouars himself, along with his family. The location is divine. A true slice of paradise. Get here now.

Large cave with all sorts of detours and crannies and nice atmospheric lighting. Nice wine samplings too.

It was great fun to visit this motorcycle museum in Chinon! The collection is really unique and the owner/tour guide is very knowledgable and has great stories for each bike. The settings and decorations for each group of bikes made it even cooler!

We very much enjoyed our tour of the winery and our tasting of several reds, a rosé and white. Informative and engaging explanation in English of the production and origin of the wines. No pressure to buy, but we happily bought a few bottles and were happy to spend a bit more than we would normally as we were happy with what we had tried.

Been coming to Chinon for seven years now and always find the staff excellent. Knowledgeable and helpful, especially with our grandchildren.
Park on the Jean D’Arc car park….all day for free, and a five minute stroll to the Tourist Office.
Reduced price Loire valley chateaux tickets sold also.

The caves are worth a look and the wine tasting was pretty good. It is directly under a portion of the castle and easily accessible in town just a short walk up rue Haut St Maurice. We arrived shortly before closing and although the servers were busy with a big group, they squeezed the 4 of us in to taste. The servers were friendly and helpful describing the wines being tasted. None of the wines knocked our socks off but we found a couple of wines that were good enough to buy a bottle or two to take along on our travels.

The Saint Benoit Aventure is a project which has been put together in and around Chinon by local chateau and vineyard owners. To see the list of places involved in the project, it is best to go into the Tourist Museum Office in Chinon or check out the Chinon website. But the important thing to grasp is that it the Saint Benoit Aventure is a concept and nothing more definite than that. Chateaux involved include the Chateau de L'Islette which I would always recommend because it is privately owned and beautifully presented with English water gardens and a little tea room on an island and nice loos by the entrance gate. But I would definitely not recommend the Chateau de Rivau which also contributes to this scheme. The owners have chosen as their brand image 'fairies' which is not to everyone's taste. And it is not cheap.

The Forest of Chinon is extensive, very old and wild; and you really need a map of the Forest from the Tourist Office at Chinon or else follow the signs carefully. Even so, it's easy to get lost if you lose your sense of the right direction or even lose the path. But the Forest is beautiful at all times of the year. Even so, watch out for the wild boar and snakes, including the viper.

The authorities have tried to bring the area of the Saint Benoit Aventurealive but I would say that it is still barely half way there. The only way of getting the most out of Chinon and the Saint Benoit Aventure is to get as much information on it beforehand as you can and then select what it is you want to do.

In the town of Chinon, there is a public lift which will take you up the hillside beside the old castle to a viewing- station where there are excellent views to be had of almost everything involved in the Saint Benoit Aventure. If you have only a short period of time available, the lift might be the right answer!

This chapelle was fascinating, telling the story of St Martin in vivid stain glass art. Well worth the stop. We even got to visit the chateau on site.

We took a drive to Chinon while staying in Montrichard and walked by here. Very interesting historically and and made you think of life here in previous times. Chinon itself is well worth a trip if around this part of France.

A beautiful chateau & Gardens , plenty to see in the castle which inspired the fairytale of ‘sleeping beauty’. The tale of sleeping beauty is told in the round tower . The gardens were full of colour designed by the designer of Versailles. A must to visit.
