This museum is housed in a beautiful and ancient building, which alone would be worth the trip. However, the music machines are absolutely wonderful. There are several wonderful fairground - type machines, but the star has to be the machine that plays a whole violin section with piano accompaniment. Simply breathtaking. If you are anywhere near, Go!

I don't care what Rick Steves says. I've always liked Rudesheim, and this is one of the reasons. The ride back and forth is just gorgeous over the vines. It's a long ride too; plenty of photo ops. At the top, there is hiking, a big monument to German unity, and a couple of restaurants. I suggest skipping the really touristy place at the top, and make an effort to get down the stairs near the gazebo. Better food and very nice staff.

Great monument celebrating the unification of Germany by Prussians in the 1870s following the Franco-Prussian War. Recommend the walk up through the vineyards and the tram down after. Great vantage point of Rhine valley.

Another narrow cobbled street with interesting period buildings, cafes/bars and tourists shops, it would be easy to go ho hum after being to several but we didn't ended doing our favourite thing sitting at a busy intersection having a drink and watching the world go by. A must do is the Rudesheim coffee.

Take your choice, walk through the vineyards (uphill) or drive to the Abbey. This was a pleasant way to spend a lazy afternoon. If you opt to drive there is plenty of free parking at the Abbey. I even saw a couple of Recreational Vehicles parked there, and of course the ubiquitous tour bus! The church, like most in Europe, is an active church with patrons on site to worship. With this in mind, please be respectful and keep noise and talking at a low volume. The church has a pictorial (not sure if it's mosaic or fresco) of Christ's life and opposite is a depiction of St. Hildegard's life. Pretty and worth the trip and time, but, I was not awestruck.

We were touring along the Rhine in Germany & we visited the lively town of Rudesheim. This town is famous for the Asbach brandy. We had a walk round the pretty little streets & had a traditional Rudesheim coffee made for us with the local brandy.

This Gazebo/Temple with an English landscape park has one of the best views of Niederwald.

This temple was built in 1790.

The original temple was destroyed in the Second World War but was rebuilt.

Unfortunately we arrived after it closed, but we were able to check out the grounds and view the castle. The place is conveniently located right off the Rhine River and close to city center. It would have been nice to enter the building to learn more of its history.

This church, now the Parish church of Eibingen, is the former monastery church of the Benedictine monastery, founded by St. Hildegard in 1165 now massively altered of course. In 1998 an extensive interior renovation took place, during which the altar area was redesigned, giving Hildegard pride of place. There are bones of two other persons in glass cases on the wall of this now very modern looking church. The gilded reliquary is lovely, though smaller than I expected. It resembles a building, with the cardinal virtues allegorically depicted on its doors: justice, fortitude, prudence and temperance. On its front and back four saints are portrayed, amongst them St Benedict. There are several steps up to the church and also a long ramp with plenty of parking in front.

We enjoyed our visit to the Asbach Distillery. I went because my husband wanted to go. I am now glad I went. There is a lot of history behind the art of Brady distillery.

Beautiful views from this temple over the River Rhine. It can be reached by walking to it from Rudesheim or the easier option of taking the "Seilbahn"(cable car), from the town. This structure was built in 1944 after the original was destroyed in 1944, and is only a stones throw from the famous Niederwald Monument.

Quaint little town to walk down the alleys. Christmas market in town and streets are decorated. Good restaurants to eat everywhere. Enjoy the local white wine. Can get here by car, train or boat down the Rhine.
