So beautiful! A little expensive but very worth the trip. Locals also mentioned to me that its worth the visit, so I splurged. Not many solo people, it would be better I think as a couple or with friends. But still lovely and I'm glad I went! Food was pretty good, and the wine package I thought was a fair deal (it's an upgrade). The ferry is heated and covered, so it's a comfy trip over (about 20 minutes).

Lysefjord is one of the most popular fjords in Norway. Lysefjord was formed about 400 million years ago due to a tectonic fault caused by the movement of plates of the earth's crust. During the ice Age, this crack was filled with ice, which moved towards the sea, pushing its weight through a deep V-shaped fjord. The popularity of Lysefjord is due to accessibility and entertainment. Accessibility is ensured by proximity to Stavanger, which is only 25 km away in a straight line. The fjord can be viewed from above from the Prekestolen (Pulpit) or from the water. And these will be different fjords! In terms of time, the least expensive way is the Prekestolen. I chose him. The famous "Pulpit" is located almost at the neck of the fjord. Most tourists choose this option. Lifting does not require much physical effort and is accessible to both teenagers and the elderly. To see Lysefjord from the other side, you need to drive to the tiny village of Lysebotn by bus from Columbus. From Stavanger in one direction it will take 3 hours and 20 minutes. There is a more spectacular option with a ferry. Lysebotn is the starting point to the second famous landmark of the fjord- Kjerag- a huge boulder stuck between two rocks. Getting to it is immeasurably more difficult. From Lysebotn only to the starting point for trekking to Kjerag it is necessary to walk 8 km. Since I arrived in Stavanger in the morning and had only a day, I immediately ruled out visiting the famous stone. But if you have more time, why not?

After the Norwegian Petroleum Museum we walked through this charming area.

On the west of the harbour area this area contrast’s with ocean going oil supply vessels close by.

In the depths of winter weather experienced today, the area was covered with snow too, adding to the beauty of the area.

    Highly recommended!

Worth a visit if you're in the area - a good way to spend a few hours. A varied exhibition which is very informative and helps you to get a better feel for the area.

Fantastic sculpture, worth a trip out from Stavanger on local bus if you don’t have a car. On a nice day you can sit on nearby picnic benches and enjoy the scenery.

We took bus 16 from Stavanger and it took 20 minutes to get there.

I went in with wanting information of the smallest things, mostly directions as I had broken my phone so needed phone repair shops. Was given a map and guidance. Sadly my phone google pixel, was not a fast mending phone in Norway. I went back for information on how to get to troll tongue and kjerag rock. The lady that worked there was a gem. I didn't get her name, although she knows who she is. She spent at least two hours helping me with the best routes, times and booked the tickets for me for kjerag. Forever grateful! as I made it! I got to Odda, I walked 28km, came back to Stavanger. Made it for kjerag and conquered the last day of the season. I enjoyed both of the hikes, exceptional view. Got photos on my go pro and new friends phone. All was possible with her help and no phone. So thank you so much!

I've been on many colored streets around the world. Pelourinho in Brazilian Salvador, Bo-Kaap in Cape Town, El Caminito in the Boca district in Buenos Aires, the Nyhavn embankment in Copenhagen and the streets of San Juan, Puerto Rico immediately come to mind. However, almost all of these are southern cities (except Copenhagen), where these streets stood out, but not so sharply with the rest of the city. In Stavanger, the main color is white and this street presents a radical contrast with the rest of the city. Locals call it that among themselves - Fargegaten- Tsvetnaya Street. The second difference from other colored streets is that color combinations are thought out here and there is no spontaneity. Although the ideological inspiration for the color transformation of the street in 2005 was local hairdresser Tom Kjørsvik, the color design was done by Scottish artist Craig Flannagan. He sought not only the harmony of neighboring houses, but also the facade, doors and window frames of the houses themselves. It took 4 years to transform the street, which became pedestrian. Not so much for the painting itself, but for overcoming the resistance of local residents. Northerners love monochrome...

We took an hour to check out this museum. Nice displays in different levels of old waterfront building.

Was interesting to see past shipping and ferry information, restored rooms from old ship, etc.

Don’t need lots of time to see this museum but we thought it was worth it..

It is not a very large museum but they try to make it as interactive as possible and for families with children it is a very good place to visit in case of bad weather. The exhibition has many interesting and valuable items from the Iron Age, Stone Age and the Viking Age. If you go below the ground floor, you can find a real time machine and a place where children can experiment on being real archeologists. We spent about two hours at this museum and the kids loved it a lot.
If you show the ticket from another museum in Stavanger, you can get a discount for the ticket at this museum if you visit on the same day.

The oldest Christian building in Norway and, sadly, closed for renovation and although the work was originally due to be finished in December 2023, the Cathedral website is now predicting Spring 2024.

Even from the outside the building is impressive, looking quite compact from the front, but stretching back a long way, into Byparken and with a Cathedral school in the grounds.

We would have loved to go inside, perhaps another day.

The congregation from the Cathedral has moved to St Petri Kirk for the duration of the renovation work, which is well worth a visit - elegant and very beautiful and less than five minutes walk from the Dom Kirk.
