This cathedral with a square in front can be reached by going up an elevators set up, not far from a parking lot in Spoleto outskirts. Like many churches across Italy, this is a splendid Romanesque building very much worth a visit not only for prayer and worship. Inside there are magnificent works of art with various paintings, including frescoes by Pinturicchio, mosaics and more.

this is an excellent way to get around spoleto. i was surprised very few people were using it. this is a moving sidewalk similar to those used in airports. this one saves you from climbing up the steps or steep roads to get to the attractions in spoleto.

the signs leading to the starting point could be clearer. in fact, it felt like we discovered a secret way of getting around the city.

Ate lunch here at Delizie Umbre which is located at the top of the stairs to the piazza. nice peaceful quiet location to enjoy some authentic Umbrian cuisine and a view of the exterior of the Duomo before going down to visit the Duomo.

The bridge is closed and under repair but the path around the rocco where you can view it from ( and would normally access) is still a great place. Great views. Nice atmosphere. The bridge still
    Impressive to view.

You get the escalators or underground travelator up to the right level too so you dont even need to climb the hill!

It worth the walk just for the panoramic views of the Umbrian country side and the Ponte delle Torri.

The church itself is pretty average, but the best is offered by the crypt. A volunteer accompanied us along the visit explaining in an interesting and entertaining way the works, unique, contained in it.

You can park wherever you want because the city has an elevator that takes you to different points of interest. I got off at the height of the Duomo. From there you can choose to go up to the fortress or take this very nice pedestrian route that culminates at the bridge of towers. Very nice.

One of the few churches I have had to pay an entrance fee for. The fee gets you in, firstly, to the museum where some special works of art are on display and then you enter the basilica. It, in itself, is very interesting. I enjoyed it but I did hear other people grumbling about paying an entrance fee. You decide if you think it is worth it.

We took the walk up to Basilica di San Salvatore and walked the grounds. It is a beautiful structure. It is the oldest church in Spoleto. The doors and windows are very ornate and historic.

Narrow streets, many arches, small shops, medieval houses and Renaissance squares. And sometimes gardens with breathtaking views

The church was built on the slops of the hill at the foot of Monteluco di Spoleto at the beginning of the fifth century, as a bishops’ cemetery, and it went through a series of interventions. In the 12th century the present facade was made with the marvelous reliefs illustrating the scenes from the life of the apostle and moralistic messages taken from the medieval stories. The approach to the church via a large 17th century staircase is a nice experience itself. The interior of the church is very elegant in the Baroque style with an elliptical dome, unique in Umbria. The church is among the most beautiful religious buildings of Umbria!
