Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- Odyssey595136468433 contributionsOn this walk you cover so much beautiful country. The views are amazing. I would highly recommend it to reasonably fit trampers. The huts are clean and well equipped. Loved every minute of it.Written 13 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Pam15 contributionsThe views on this walk are stunning. A reasonable level of fitness is required. The seal colony is worthwhile- there were a lot of seal pups frolicking around in mid March.Written 17 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rigger ReidTimaru, New Zealand217 contributionsThis place is a must to visit, tar seal road all the way to the top,
was so interesting how they mined for the coal and sent it down the hill, stunning views from the top of the plateau
Lots of information to read would have been an incredible working site.Written 13 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A good experience, and worthwhile, to see the work done in the mines in past days. A good souvenir shop, with lots of goodies to purchase. The displays were very good, along with the usual historic pictures, and life size displays of wagons, and a stroll through a mine reconstruction.
Well worth the stop.Written 3 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - zg6441 contributionsVisited as part of a small tour group. This is a quick stop off of the road to Abel Tasman Park but well worth seeing. There are approximately 50 seals. It’s about a 20 minute stop and free of charge.Written 16 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Theresa DPerth, Australia1,053 contributionsAll the info you need for the local attractions plus a fabulous on site museum and well priced merchandise in the gift store
The museum tells the story of the minerals that have established many lives in the area. It starts with a mix of magic and science with the stories of these minerals in a short film . After that there are extensive displays with good explanations so you can learn as much as you want to at your own pace. More movies are set in the darkness of a coal mine.Written 7 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Gemma RWellington, New Zealand366 contributionsWe decided to check the theatres out on a rainy west coast day and take the kids to a movie. We booked the tickets online which made things really easy. There are 3 cinemas but the cinema we were in was a compact elevated seating cinema with good surround sound and comfy chairs. Picture quality was comparible to other cinemas we have been too. We found check in, and purchasing of food all straight forward and the food was cheap for a cinema too compared to Wellington. Good amenitys, parking etc.Written 20 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- mummakookWollongong, Australia385 contributionsWe were after somewhere scenic to eat our lunch and stumbled upon this place. There were very few people around, just us and the seagulls for the most part. Also popular for walking and cycling, and restricted freedom camping, it was a cool place to spend a bit of time.Written 1 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 992amandaKyneton, Australia5 contributionsAmazing service. We rented two bikes for an overnight trip on the old ghost road - Adrian had us fitted, briefed and prepared for the adventure. Some damn good old fashioned customer service that meant we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience on the best equipment possible. Would highly recommend.Written 15 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
