What travellers are saying
- Wilfred WManchester, UK11 contributionsMy recent visit to Tbilisi's Old Town (November 2023) was nothing short of a magical journey through time! From the moment I stepped onto the cobbled streets, I was transported to a world of architectural wonders and captivating charm.
The buildings, adorned with intricate balconies and vibrant details, felt like living pieces of history. The Narikala Fortress perched on the hill provided breathtaking views, making me feel like I was part of a medieval fairy tale. The mix of styles – medieval, neoclassical, and art nouveau – created a visual feast for architecture enthusiasts like myself.Written 22 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is so convenient to go and cheap as well. It is worth the adventure finding the Mother of Georgia statue.Written 8 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Liege-Bastogne-LiegeZurich, Switzerland378 contributionsExtraordinary place.
Amongst many lovely churches of the Russian Orthodox faith in Tiblisi, this is by far the grandest, largest and most spectacular.
I was surprised to learn that it opened only in 1995. It is sited on a hillside to the est of the city, but within easy walking distance from the centre, along the Kura River and across a rather epic new steel and glass footbridge.
It is imposing from the outside - it is designed to wow and to impress - and inside it is vast, in floorspace and in height.
It was busy on the afternoon of the first Friday of March, with a knot of pilgrims standing around a dais listening to prayers and a sermon being offered by one of the priests.
There are scores of wonderful almost life-size icons dotted prominently around the cathedral. Seating is very limited, leaving vast swathes of floor space to wander around. It is reverential, it is a place of prayer and pilgrimage., not a tourist attraction, but has many visitors.
Many of the smaller churches dotted all over central Tiblisi share the same pattern, are older and also wonderful to visit. Reverence is the key.
It was a wonderful afternoon visit. I am grateful.Written 14 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are many interesting objects and paintings in the museum, which mainly date from the 18th and 19th centuries. The museum also has a secret room. The girl who works there explained everything very clearly. I recommend everyone to visit the museum.❤️Written 7 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Away With Anna - Travel Blog13 contributionsBeautiful and modern pedestrian bridge crossing Kura River and connecting to Rike Park. There are good views of the river and city from the bridge. Free to access and a popular photo-taking spot for tourists. There are typically people on the bridge selling boat rides if you are interested. Worth walking across if you're in the area already.Written 3 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DrRahulModiGorakhpur, India101 contributionsThe easiest way is to take the cable car to the top. The steps were too slippery as it was raining. When we reached the top, it was drizzling, the view of the city looked cool from the top. There are souvenir shops and cafes at the top. - Wilfred WManchester, UK11 contributionsThe ride offered a unique perspective of Tbilisi, revealing its diverse landscapes and architectural wonders from a bird's-eye view.
At the top station, Mtatsminda Park overlooking the city, and you can also go visit Mother of Georgia from there, an absolute must-see. The atmosphere was electric, with families, locals, and fellow travelers alike. I really enjoyed my time (went with my girlfriend who love it as well).Written 22 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Designed such that it looks to be built of blocks piled higgledy piggledy, this architectural oddity was hard to miss. Unfortunately, we did miss out on viewing a performance here! We will have to return to rectify this tragedy, should we find ourselves in Tbilisi again!Written 24 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LolaGo1Washington DC, DC6,452 contributionsThis is an avenue with beautiful buildings, similar to those seen in European cities. The facades of the building are ornate, with some carvings, etc. I asked a local what these buildings are for, was told that some are government buildings and commercial offices. They all seemed to be well-maintained.
I took my time walking around here, just enjoying the ambience.Written 11 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jbg74Saint Paul, MN1,057 contributionsThere are some great views of the city from here and the TV tower looks pretty cool. Someone was going to refurbish the TV tower and turn it into a restaurant but COVID stopped it. It would be pretty cool to be able to go up the TV tower.Written 20 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Expat AdrianAbu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates722 contributionsGeorgia 🇬🇪 and her capitalTbilisi are rich with history, my family were keen to have a deeper understanding of the nation’s past.
We enjoyed all displays at the museum, three floors in total. It’s not a large museum, about two hours worth. My son and I enjoyed the insight into Georgia’s history, including that under soviet rule. This top floor gallery is not for ‘war enthusiasts’ as one visited has stated, the post-World War One period for Georgia was cruel and brutal, recent history I’m thankful to now know a little more about.
What was insulting was that as tourists, we were required to pay double the entry price, 30 GEL each. Whoever has agreed to this has no real appreciation of how insulting this is. My family and I choose to visit your beautiful country, spent thousands of Euros to get here, to then be exploited because we weren’t born here. This needs to be addressed in my opinion.Written 10 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
