A great garden to visit. One of the better Japanese gardens (apparently it’s one of the top 3 in Japan).

Worth /good place to do a stop over if u are traveling between the Hiroshima area and the Osaka/Kyoto area

A hidden gem located in the middle of nowhere but definitely worth the visit. The shrine sits atop a hill that offers a great scenery. The temple complex includes a long corridor.
The shrine can be accessed via Momotaro line that starts and ends at Okayama station. Get off at Kibitsu station. It's an 8-minute walk from the station and you can enjoy the view of a typical Japanese countryside on your way.
Don't forget to check the time on your way back before heading to the shrine, as the trains don't operate so frequently. The train doors won't open automatically so you need to press a button by the doors to open them yourself (something you experience with typical Japanese countryside train).

It is a beautiful rebuild however this is NOT the original castle. Because it is a rebuild, it has a few modern amenities like an elevator and AC.

There are many exhibits inside the castle. What samurai armor is like, how royalty are carried by porters, you can hold a samurai sword or a flintlock gun. There are places in the castle designed for photos. There even is a little film about the warlords who used the castle but this was in Japanese only.

If you are looking to visit an original castle, this is not the castle to visit. If you wish to get a beautiful photo opportunity and get the gist of what a castle feels like with air conditioning and an elevator, this is a good castle for you.

It is also one of the few spots worth visiting in this city.

It’s an expensive ferry ride from Naoshima (¥1880 one way) but very well worth it. We took the first ferry at 920 am from Miyanoura port and arrived at 1015. We got our tickets and went straight to this museum. We were the first to arrive so we had the place to ourselves. We were really impressed with how they incorporated the artwork with the former copper refinery. After walking through, there is a path outside that leads you around the back of the refinery which most people don’t bother checking out.

We would definitely make another trip here in the future.

When I went there in the morning, the weather is cold. It has nice scene to capture photos. We can also check small pond in front of this temple. If you are interested, you can insert 100 coin at the wooden box area to get a fortune wooden stick. Its in english translation paper.

Yumeji Art is right next to Korakuen...I combined the two and saved a few hundred yen on the ticket price.

The art here is just lovely...lots of ladies in wistful poses...no signage in English, but they will give you some things to read in English. I just enjoyed taking it all in...didn't really miss the explanations. There is also another site with even more exquisite pieces. ..you can get there by bus. The ladies will give you instructions.

It is a newly opened huge shopping mall. It is linked to JR Okayama station by an underground passage. What is amazing is the beauty of its design. Shopping areas are bright and spacious. It is also a strong point that there are many rest areas with comfortable chairs. A shopping mall is indeed not a touristic attraction like a temple or a museum, but I believe that this mall is worth taking a look.

This is an tram system but has been maintained and even upgraded. It is good to explore some parts of the city with cheap cost. They even have daily pass where you can ride many times. Some of the trams are decorated based on themes and are very cute. I took a cat theme tram and the stop buzzer made cat sound..

Sun Station Terrace is a shopping mall which is located inside JR Okayama station building. Apparently it is newly opened (or renovated), and so it is very clean and appealing. I didn’t visit the whole area, but it seem that it is not only for tourists but also for local shoppers. Of course, you can buy souvenirs of Okayama too. I bought Kibudango, a famous local sweet.

A very relaxing island with many art attractions, old narrow, charming streets, and a beach and campground. A daytrip is good enough, but it is very peaceful to stay the night when most tourists are gone.

i don't remember how we came to visit this temple, rebuilt in 1600.
    its not in my notes.
it was raining on our second day in okayama, so we hired a cab and off we went.
we were staying at the wonderful ana crowne plaza. they were very welcoming and provided great service. they made reservations for us at mogura restaurant that was a wonderful experience.
had visited the amazing kora kuen garden the first day.
the cab ride here took about 20 minutes.
it is built on the mountainside looking over the lush countryside.
what we found so befuddling was that hardly anyone was here, as in maybe a handful of people.
the entrance from the parking lot is a steep area up through the mostly closed vendor shops on a narrow lane, that was puzzling as well.
this is a rare buddhist temple with a shinto tori, the 3rd most important inari in japan.
the huge tori at the entrance is 27 m. tall, the 4th tallest in japan.
the messenger at this inari is the fox, and you'll see many stone structures portraying the animal on the grounds.
one enters through a stone gate modelled on the architecture of india.
the first building is a massive hall with a huge sacred rope hanging on the exterior of the front of the building.
we walked right up to the top at the back of the grounds where there are dozens of small inari shrines built on the edge of the forest.
renovations were taking place in a hall up there.
all quite fascinating and most unusual.
we visited in oct. 2019, and its taken me this long to write about it due to covid.

It is a small muesum funded by some private donator. The collection cannot be compared with major national museums but it is still quite interesting with artifacts mainly from near East region and south America.
