What travellers are saying
- MidwestKathMDetroit, MI934 contributionsRecently had occasion to plan a daytrip for family visiting from out West. The Michigan State Capitol, in tandem with other nearby sites, was a perfect site to take in! After going through security, we began to walk through the building, floor by floor, wing by wing. The Rotunda was not open as it is undergoing a yearlong refresh, although we could see some of the Governor portraits. Still there is plenty of other sites throughout the building to enjoy. Designed by Elijah Myers, built in the 1870s, the building features the work of some of the best artisans of the day. The iron staircases. Beautiful hardwood. Stunning ceilings and walls. Light fixtures and door handles and even door hinges feature the state capitol and other state symbols. We stopped in the State Senate chambers and talked with the Sergeant at Arms. We watched the State House in chambers. We were to peek into the Governor's Office. Free admission. Plenty of metered parking on the streets. Definitely worth a return visit!!Written 25 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Mike SKokomo, IN4 contributionsExcellent museum. Not overly large, but well planned with a lot of information on R.E. Olds and the company he founded. A great place to enjoy an afternoon.Written 13 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- KenOrient, Ohio298 contributionsGreat little zoo. Beautiful grounds. A little challenging terrain, especially towards the elk. Nice place to spend an afternoon or a day, if you're like me. Would definitely be a member if I lived in the area.
Staff was very engaging, helpful and personable.
A nice variety and some unique species. Well done habitats though some areas need updated but it's obviously evolving with new enclosures/habitats in progress. Intimate space with close proximity to many of the inhabitants.
Only negative was that just about every school district in the area had their zoo day the day I was there. In fact, I heard several people comment in line that they had never seen so many people there. Good part was, they were pretty well cleared out by noon and it became a quiet, peaceful afternoon.Written 29 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Much of its history revolves around mining and manufacturing, both of which are well represented in the diverse displays. We visited on a 'free' Sunday, availing ourselves of the free parking as well. We learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the various exhibits.Written 1 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jennifer W42 contributionsTook our 5 year old grandson and 15 month old grandson. The older boy had a wonderful time. He explored everything and we had to pull him away when we had to leave for dinner. The baby enjoyed it too, but obviously didn't know what was going on. Highly recommend it for children. And, during these COVID times, they had buckets to put the pieces you touch in a bucket to be sanitized and had hand sanitizers scattered around the exhibits.Written 1 August 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Casey J1 contributionWalked from Waverly rd trail head to dodge Park trailhead , then from dodge Park to clippers st trailhead . 17.24 miles total 5 hrs 27 minutes. Most of the trail is very nice except the downtown river walk, lots of homeless , alcohol containers all over , smells like pot and urine . Detours at Michigan Ave to shiawassee , had to walk through lots of people. Only problems were downtown . Shopping carts , tents under bridges , blankets and sleeping bags all over the place and lots of trash .Written 15 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Keith BWayne, MI450 contributionsLansing has never been a favorite city of mine, but being a big baseball fan I had to see a Lugnuts game. The park is a little better than your average A ball stadium. They have a small area with a Michigan Baseball Hall of Fame which is cool. No netting either, another plus. The foul poles are very short, only around 305 feet.
Maybe I’ll go again next year.Written 1 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were there for a buffet with a company and it was very good. They have a small bar and I understand some cruises feature live music. Relaxing to sit anywhere on the deck with a drink. I would go for an event for sure.Written 17 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- goaliema4everIndiana6 contributionsThis is the second visit to this establishment. Loved it both times. I am particularly addicted to the Shrimp and Grits. My husband tries different things and all have been wonderful. Service both times was pretty slow and waitresses were rather overworked/inattentive, but worth it because we love the food.Written 5 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
