- roy vTraralgon, Australia4,822 contributionsRecently while staying in Rye we walked past the pier every morning. At the moment it is undergoing a major renovation so you cannot venture onto the pier.
Interesting to watch the workmen putting the huge timbers on for the new deck.

Be aware of dangerous rips, tide change times and large waves can wash you off the rock ledges.
Read the signage in the car park.
Please go to Port Phillip Bay beaches Rosebud, Rye, Blairgowrie, Sorrento where it is safer for swimming.
Sorrento Ocean Beach is usually a patrolled beach with life savers. Look for the yellow & red flags and ONLY swim between them at times when they are displayed.
Too many tragic accidents happening here.Written 5 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - roy vTraralgon, Australia4,822 contributionsThis is a great playground near the long Rye Pier and the beach.
Even in winter there is always some family there with kids enjoying this community built asset.
Right across the road from the Main Street it is well maintained with good fencing around it. Barbecues and toilet facilities make it a good family place for a get together. Well done to all involved in its construction.Written 17 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Before going up the steps you pass a old lime kiln which has been restored, interesting to look at and see the history of the lime kilns on Rye.
Up quite a few steps you get to the top and there you get great views either way of the bay and beach.
Go down the other side via another flight of steps you can walk along the water front inside the constructed stone walk and look up at the white cliffs made of limestone, very impressive, would have been hard work cutting the limestone for the kilns where it was burnt to make lime for the building industry. Great place to see the sunrise.Written 18 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
