What travellers are saying
- Conan MBeijing, China115 contributionsThis is one of the most wonderful botanical gardens I've seen in China, much less the world, and I've seen a number of extraordinary gardens. You do need to be aware that it is about an hour outside of town and you may not be able to get a DiDi to it. Other ride sharing apps, tour buses, and a very inexpensive public bus can get you there. I suggest you pay for the electric carts if you can because there are 23.5 km of trails. Barring that, make sure you explore all the Chinese Academy of Science's gardens. Flowers, fruits, and vines are amazing. Then do as much of the rain forest as you can. It is a different world.Written 21 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- mcneely2015Hua Hin, Thailand266 contributionsThis is a major tourist attraction, but is well managed so it is pleasant to walk through the forest on a path that has a woven bamboo covering so mud is not a problem even in the rainy season. This is claimed to be "virgin forest" but it is certainly not that; but many large trees remain and the information signs were ok. At 18:00, over a hundred peacocks flew from the hillside and over the lake as part of a nice celebration of these colorful pheasants; unfortunately, a driving rainstorm followed the birds, so the celebration was abbreviated. We had a great dinner, with wonderful dancing from several of the ethnic groups found in this part of Yunnan.Written 25 June 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CMSoonKuala Lumpur, Malaysia140 contributionsTakes about 1 to 1.5 hours drive from city centre to the village. Dai tribe has about 2 to 3 million people and is the biggest tribe in xishuangbanna.
You need to buy buggy ride ticket to take you around as the villsge is big. There are water pouring ceremony in the park and followed by a cultural dance performance for about 40 mminutes covered by your entrance ticket price.
Encourage to visit this village to understand Dai tribal culture.Written 21 January 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Strongly recommend you walk rather than use the electric shuttle buses because you can go where the people are fewer, the noise less (which allows you to enjoy the scenery), and find places to sit and enjoy the scenery. Importantly, this is not worth making a special trip to Xinshuangbanna, but if you are there it is worth visiting.Written 18 February 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Stefan HStuttgart, Germany354 contributionsNice area, beautiful view over the city. Unfortunately the highest temple cannot visited because it will be renovated. You can drive with small busses to the top and up, if you want (extra costs). We use the car to the top but walk down. The side temple represents the Buddhism from Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Sri Lanka.
At 5:00PM a special peacock bird show will be available, a lot of peacocks flying down from mountain to this special place for feeding (naja - soso).Written 7 January 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are some interesting temple-style buildings but unsure how old they actually are. The scenery in the park itself is worth it. Just go for a stroll around. There are some very old and interesting trees, flowers and a nice lake. There was a short, free dance show near the main entrance when we arrived that was cool. Very thai (or dai?!). The main drawbacks of this park is typical of many Chinese sights in that they over do things. Do you really need pumping dance music and an animal show in a historical park? You can do a lap of the lake within an hour but regular intervals you get beeped and have to move out of the way of these golf cart style busses ferrying people around. Who doesn’t like feeding fish? Not sure how good it is for the Swans to be so comfortable with people they eat out of their hands though. Overall, definitely worth your time but they could achieve more with less.Written 9 July 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tour759193Singapore, Singapore88 contributionsThe ManChunMan Temple (曼春滿佛寺) is located inside the Xishuangbanna Dai Cultural Garden (see separate review). Reputedly the first temple set up by the southern Buddhists in this region more than 1400 years ago. Current buildings mostly rebuilt in the '70s after devastation by in the Cultural Revolution.
Very well respected and with international followers in annual Buddhist events, it has received credentials and gifts from numerous Dai royal houses and Buddhist institutions.
Typical Dai style in a relatively small area. Many photogenic spots and surprisingly few visitors on the day of our visit. The Main Hall, Buddha wishing pond, colourful buildings and especially the murals are noteworthy.Written 20 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. But the park is beautiful and the wooden trail very nicely set up. We walked about one hour and staied 30 minutes at the elephant viewing platform.
Staff was very annoying, as they tried to make us go back when we were the last visitors at the platform, although we just arrived and the park would not close for another 90 minutes. We told them politely we would not go, and one guy would follow us closely for every step, until my wife got impatient and lectured him. After that we were not disturbed anymore and could observe several birds and interesting insects, but unfortunately our patience was not rewarded and no elephants were to see.Written 14 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
