We learned that this is the 2nd largest city in Maryland. This area is filled with restaurants, shopping and professional offices. Very clean. Does have uneven sidewalks for those who this might affect they may find it hard to walk.

This two floor museum tucked into an old building in Frederick, Maryland, houses a wonderful series of displays on Civil War Medicine. Jonathan Letterman, M.D. emerges as a hero of modern military medicine, developing the triage system and doubtless saving countless lives of wounded soldiers from both the Union and Confederate armies. Exhibits document 19th Century medical education, Union draft exams, the use of anesthesia, the development of prostheses for amputees and of plastic surgery, the development of ambulances -- a host of medical aspects in a bloody war where more combatants died of disease than on the battlefield. A helpful volunteer retired doctor provided helpful commentary.
Some visitors might find aspects of the exhibition gruesome, but on the whole it's good history and a tribute to medical attempts to save lives and ease suffering. Worth a detour.

Located in an attractive brick (c.1899) restored warehouse, the Frederick Visitors center was excellent in many areas. Besides the beautiful property, the staff was wonderful, informative and there were brochures, maps, exhibits, photos and magazines, all you needed to help you thoroughly enjoy this historic city. There is 45 minute free parking at the center though they only have 6 spaces, and 3 hour validation at parking garages. The only negative was the 6 minute film, that was nice but mostly fluff that was surprising considering the historic nature of Frederick. They need a 20 minute film that begins with the founding of Frederick in 1745 along with historic events and discussing the growth of Frederick over the decades. How the Revolutionary War and the Civil War helped shaped the city. How and what industries impacted it as well as Carroll's Creeks influence on its growth etc.

This park is well maintained and along the walkway this time of year the lily pads were still alive. Beautiful tree color on our morning walk.

McClintock does a tasting tour the right way. It starts with a tour of the facility, which is really just a single large room with several pieces of equipment. The guide explained the history of McClintock, the distilling process and the special McClintock elements and then it was on to the tasting. The tasting included everything they made across several types of liquor: 2 whiskey, 2 gin, 2 vodka and 2 dessert liquors. It sounds like a lot of alcohol, but the pours were small and this amounted to a total of about two shots over an hour. It was interesting to taste all the different types of liquor, and the guide explained these differences well so I knew what to "look for" when tasting. The tasting tour was free with our purchase of several bottles; McClintock has some really good products.

Was in town for a few days, and I never pass up the opportunity to learn about a Civil War Battlefield. I did not know how important this battle really was in the grand scheme of things. Had this battle never materialized, the Civil War really could have taken a drastic turn. Started off at the visitor center, which was very informative and well laid out, yet didn't take hours to tour. Staff was very willing to help or chat about anything desired. Off to the battlefield, there are really only 5 sites to visit, much is just empty farmland. Wish you could actually tour the farmhouses, and a few more historical markers would be nice, but still a nice day outside in December. Temperatures were in the 50's the day we visited. Would definitely recommend if you are into Civil War or historical sites.

    This park was amazing!
First time to Frederick, MD and we wanted a place to eat pizza our pizza where our dog could be with us. We happened to fall upon Baker Park and we sure glad we did! Plenty of picnic tables, a public pool, stream where people were fishing and having a picnic by, tennis courts, playground, green grass, amazing views, EASY PARKING!

    Be sure to visit!

Earlier in the day we didn't really notice while walking north on the walkway but on the way back it was a standout. Maybe the lighting played a role in seeing the details. Placard is available to explain how it came to be.

Visited Rose Hill Manor yesterday on a beautiful and very warm "spring" day. The staff was just as warm as it was outside. One of the members gave us a complete tour of the house, the exhibits on Changes in Rural America throughout the years, and about the families who lived there. After the home tour, she took us to the out buildings and showed us even more about life on the Manor estate, the people, and all the hard work and tools of the trade. The Carriage and Sleigh Museum was another great addition to the tour. My wife and I really appreciated her time and effort to ensure we had a pleasant visit. It was a great way to enjoy the afternoon and we look forward to future visits for other events.

    Great food and solid drinks.

Stopped in on our way to WV.

The nachos were really good! Really like the food.

    Liked the whiskey sampler.

Lots of games to play while hanging out.

Said we needed a reservation, but we were the only people there at noon on a Saturday.
