- iamfaceCardiff, UK1,552 contributionslovely small town and pretty enough for a short stop and visit after long ride for area of Gorges du VerdonWritten 13 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- brianandgailaustralia187 contributionsThis is an amazing place - all the cars are as bought and the proprietor will not entertain anything that is not in original condition. I was amazed to find that I was the only visitor. Make time to visit this place if you are in the area.Written 26 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MeredithAussieMelbourne, Australia1,944 contributionsThe Office de Tourisme staff are friendly and helpful, providing a useful little map showing main sites of interest and walking tracks.
This gorgeous little town on the Route Napoléon has some beautiful walks both through town (with a number of artistic signposts explaining buildings or events) and around the old remparts and gardens, as well as outside of town, especially up to Notre-Dame-du-Roc that towers 184m above the town. The Verdon River runs past Castellane, and I noticed quite a few people enjoying canoeing the rapids, despite the autumnal weather. The old bridge over the Verdon on the road to Grasse (Pont du Roc) dates back to the 15th century. The town square had market stalls set up the day I visited (Monday), but I was still able to enjoy the lovely fountain.
Look out for the beautiful sundial on the wall above the Office de Tourisme!Written 10 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SB0119 contributionsI came across this museum by accident after I had visited the Citroen Museum. I know a little about the French Resistance and the operations of SOE and I though that this was a fascinating museum with many true gems on display. If anything there were too many artefacts and too little explanation however it is well worth visiting.Written 30 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Garry C2 contributionsI discovered this 1 hour 30 minutes round walk from a tourist office book on local rambles. From the car park there is an information board explaining the route which is well trodden once you get started. The path is good and the walking fairly easy with a few 'puffy' bits. You descend across a bridge to some very well preserved fossils, protected in cases. Information boards are in French and English. Look for the few fossils which are touchable for the children just after the last case. Toddlers would struggle with the walk. Well behaved dogs would love it.Written 19 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- johnhouston2Knaresborough, UK5,258 contributionsBuilt between 1868 and 1873 this Gothic style church is situated in the centre of town. Although there are a good selection of paintings and religious artefacts, the grey stone walls and ceilings have been left plain, which suits me as I don’t like the over-abundance of artwork that you find in so many old churches.
Although relatively plain, the actual design and shape of the building is rather pleasing and the sort of “ribbed” vaulted ceiling in the chancel looks superb, as do the six long, thin, stained glass windows that provide the focal point to this end of the church.
And in keeping with the theme of relative simplicity, the reredos is understated but very attractive.Written 15 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This is a fascinating collection of Citroen cars from 1945 onwards and comprises low mileage, unrestored cars. The proprietor, Henri Fradet, was the sole member of staff when I visited and he has a fantastic knowledge of the cars in his collection and can give a clear explanation in English, French and German. Each car has a facts sheet in several languages and there were about 120 cars on display when I visited. There are some very rare cars including a four wheel drive 2CV, several rotary engined cars and some Chapron DS convertibles.Written 30 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
