My family are planning our trip to Beaver Creek Resorts for the beginning of next year. We have 3 kids under 5 and are just planning on playing in the snow, but no skiing and snowboarding just yet. When is the best time to go (January - April)? And can we get by without a car at the resort?
Warmer and chance of better weather later you can go. Risk of less or wet snow on lower elevation for snow play later in season. You can see snow level by Feb. Likely less costly as April is close to end of ski season.
We did not bring our 3 kids since our trip was a work trip, however, there were so many little kids and dogs! They all looked like they had a blast! You wouldn't need a car since there is so much to do at the resort and properties, shops, restaurants right there. We took a shuttle to and from the Vail airport from Colorado Mountain Express. Not sure if they have car seats so you'd want to check on that. There's free hot chocolate in the afternoons as well as free fresh baked cookies at the resort. The Chalet is very kid and dog friendly! If you wanted, you could choose to have your kids 3 and up get ski lessons for a day! There were so many little kids learning to ski!!
We took 4 kids and didn't ski, we did buy a $20 plastic sled, and a snowball maker for $15 on site. We did 3 days, my kids are 11, 9, 7, 5 and that was perfect. I think another day would have been too much.
We went in February which is perfect conditions for snow. I would pick January-March and if money is a factor base it on that. It's going to be beautiful and snow filled no matter what. April however might be more of a weather risk, but I can't say that authoritatively.
During the day the pools and hot tubs are going to be pretty much all yours. Tuesday they have a free snow shoeing activity on site. You can ice skate on site or in Vail, they have little metal things for the kids to hold on to. There's a kid museum of some sort but we didn't get to it. Playgrounds are fun covered in snow, within walking distance. After 3pm park free at lions gate garage in Vail, free to ride the gondola after 330. That was fun for the kids...and free! Request the Newsletter from the resort. Its full of little ideas of other things to do. If you're able to spend more, dog sledding, and sleigh rides up to a cabin for dinner, etc are really cool ideas, but quite pricey. We didn't do those things, but they looked cool.
You don't need a car while at the resort. We only used ours to go to Vail that one day, but I think there's a shuttle, not sure if it's free or not. Valet is $50/day. Do the math and check out cheaper options to get there. We needed our car for the rest of the trip so we took it.
Let me know if I can help some more. You're going to have a great trip!
Late January has less crowds but it is colder than April. You only need a car if you are heading out of beaver creek
Best Time to go is March and April. A car is good idea in case you want to explore area; but, you will not need it. The Hyatt is right at all lifts, snow, etc; and several shops, restaurants are within walking distance. The restaurants at hotel serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.
It is a very lovely hotel with some rooms offering excellent views.

It is best to have a car in case you want to drive to other restaurants in area. Or, with children once you are at Hotel you are right at lifts and snow is there. So with a full serve hotel you could get along without a car. Other restaurants are near by within walking distance of a few blocks of Hyatt.
