Is the sea safe to swim in from here? I saw signs warning of strong currents. TIA
Hi Alison,
We concur with most of the other responses we have quite strong currents to the east towards our spit, so we don't encourage swimming there. We do have people who swim in the water directly in front of the building as the currents aren't as strong there but also there is a line of sight from the building so should something happen someone is able to see them.
We hope this is of some help.
Best wishes
The Lepe Team
I wouldn't swim there. Good for paddling and when the tide goes out there is a sand bank. Strong currents.
I would think it will be fine for paddling but as there are warnings about strong currents you should make yourself aware of the state of the tides at all times and also wind and weather conditions before even considering swimming and all children should be supervised when in the water whether paddleing or swimming.
Stick with the paddling only recommendation. Definitely not a good place to swim - head West to Boscombe, Bournemouth or Studland Bay for great swimming.
I agree - ok to paddle but I deffo wouldnt recommend swimming. The beach is a real mix of sand shale and pebbles and the current is quite fast and strong, particularly as you head east.
