we plan on visiting St Peters Basilica first thing in the morning when it opens I believe 7am and want to go to the top of the dome is it possible to then be at the Vatican museum for 8.30 am
St Peter’s is huge with so much to see. I don’t honestly think you could do it, beside which, you would probably be watching your time constantly, so would you really enjoy it? I would recommend a different itinerary to be honest. We were there in January and spent 3.5 hours in the Vatican Museums and two hours in St Peter’s, and could have stayed longer, but they close at 6:30pm. If you can’t move your schedule, you just do the best you can. I would recommend buying skip the line entry into both places. It is well worth the money.
You’re probably better getting the joint ticket for the Vatican museums and St. Peter’s and then do them in that order. But you have to walk back to it.
Failing that if you book a guided tour of the museum and St. Peter’s, the guide will lead you directly into the church vis the museums saving you walk time to walk around and also queuing time to get into the basilica.
As a side note: Don’t underestimate the time you need for the museums as they are huge so you want to give yourself a few good hours AND some time to break
I think you might struggle the basilica is huge with so much to see, and to do it and the dome In 1 hour 30 minutes is pushing it.. Not including any queues and it will take you about 15 minutes to walk from St Peters Square to the Vatican museum entrance..
