Hi , is there much to do in the area ? Can anyone recommend places worth visiting. Thank you
There is a lot to do in the area. We were with our two young grandchildren, so we did family things. There is the Beatrix Potter Exhibition in Bowness, Beatrix Potter`s house at Hilltop, Sawrey, the boat cruise across Lake Windermere to the Aquarium from Bowness, Muncaster Castle and Birds of Prey Centre ( a 50 minute drive away ).
Bowness itself is a 10 minute walk along the very pretty designated lakeshore path ( completely safe for children ) from the public car park on the opposite side of the road to Windermere Marina Village.
Bowness and windermere are a lovely leisurely walk away. The lakes aquarium is near by, you can get a boat all the way there. We love staying in Bowness.
Ps! You need a head for heights on Striding Edge - it can be dangerous in high winds or ice. A safer climb to Helvellyn is from the other side parking at Wythburn Church, Thirlmere.
There's a great activity centre at Brockhole Ambleside.
There is everything to do here! In addition to the above try fell walking. Most common to climb are the Langdale Pikes from Dungeon Gill and Helvellyn via Striding Edge from Patterdale. For a fantastic drive on a sunny day try going over the Wrynose Pass to Wastwater with lunch at the hotel at the end of theLake.
