Is there an airport transfer to the hotel and what is the cost?
the hotel is a short walk from chatswood station which is ok if you dont have luggage. if you are not travelling light it might be a bit of a bother. luggage with wheels might still be ok. i had take a cab and it cost around 85 AUD and takes less than 45 mins
Hi Sharon we used the train also. There is an airport surcharge so on advice we caught a bus a couple stops then got the train, In hindsight I don't think it was worth it but we were not in a hurry & only had 1 case. The trains in Sydney are excellent but if you are arriving after a long haul flight & can afford it Uber might be worth it. Peak hour traffic in Sydney can be very bad so this may affect any prices for a taxi or Uber. Enjoy, Chatswood is brilliant as is the hotel.
Thank you so much Karen. You have been a tremendous help. We will certainly use the train system. I really appreciate your response.
You're welcome Sharon.
The trains were very handy to use. We had no problem with luggage. There are 3 levels on the trains. Upstairs, downstairs and an entry level floor. The entry level floor can be used for disabled users or people with strollers or luggage. There were so many seats on the trains that they were never crowded. We had just flown from Japan where we were crushed like sardines on trains. The Australian trains were pure luxury in comparison. They were very efficient.
The train crosses over the Sydney Harbour Bridge to get to the hotel and the views of the harbour and Sydney Opera house were fantastic. I'd definitely recommend the trains. The train station is on the right hand side of the airport after you go through customs. They ran every few minutes. You get the ticket from a machine. You choose Chatswood as your destination and pay for the full trip. So easy to use. Ask any staff member there and they know the train system inside out so they will direct you to the platforms if needed but the display screens were easy and accurate to use. We've been to many big cities around the world and Sydney was by far the easiest city to get around by public transport.
Screen shot or print the directions to the hotel from Google maps. The hotel was just a straight walk down a pedestrian street market area. It's on the left hand side of the street by a green grass area. Stay left and walk across the green area. You'll see the hotel. Go through a small side street on the left beside the building to enter at the front of the hotel. I highly recommend the hotel. It was beautiful, modern, spotlessly clean and the staff were so nice. Enjoy your trip.
Thank You Karen!! I appreciate all your feedback and will certainly look into the websites. Probably will use the train if it was easy. Luggage is the only concern.
I don't think there is a transfer service run by the hotel. We travelled by train. It took 2 trains and about 45 minutes. It was an easy commute and it cost around AUD $20pp each way. The hotel is less than a 10 min walk from train station. A taxi would take around 30 minutes and costs around AUD $70-$90. Uber would cost around AUD $45-$65. You can hire private shuttles and the prices vary greatly, up to around AUD $120. If you google you'll find many companies. There's also a website called 'jayride'. It's a comparison site for shuttle buses. It will show you the cheapest option.
Thank you for the response. It is excellent to know the price of a cab to the airport. Appreciate your information.
Thank You Kimberley. I really appreciate your answer and it does confirm the train is a good way to go. We will have 4 suitcases though so that is my concern. I am glad you liked the hotel and the area. It is always hard to decide where to stay when you do not know the area. It sounded lovely though. Thanks again. Sharon
