Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter Questions & Answers

Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Hi, I was wondering if my 14 years old daughter (a Harry Potter fan), and I should do this tour. We do live in Florida, USA. We have annual passes to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure . In 2015 we have visited both parks many times!!! Is there a good reason for us to take this tour? Is it going to be similar to the ones in Orlando? We will visiting London for 6 days. We are visiting Oxford University where the original great Hall is (Library). Please advise, since this is our first trip to London and there is much to do.

Thank you.

Hi Gloria,

I live in Orlando and have been to Universal Studios many times so I completely understand your concern.

I would say that the big difference is authenticity. In Universal Studios everything is modeled on the films, in London, you see the real sets, costumes, props and how the films were made. We are huge Harry Potter fans and we were there for over 4 hours and enjoyed ourselves immensely.

However, you say this is your first trip to London and yes, I agree, there is a lot to do! The studios are about 20 miles northwest of London and will take a good part of your day to get there, visit and get back.

Please let me know if you do visit.

If you can fit it in I'm sure your daughter will enjoy it.

Enjoy your trip!

I have never been to the florida one so can't compare, all I can say is my visit was fantastic, If Harry Potter is your thing then its all here, all the props, scenery, diagon alley, weasley kitchen, the great hall, the night bus and the hogworts express and 1000's of other things. I would reccomend going as I think you and your daughter would love it.

I have always been impressed by the way that America does its theme parks. The trip here in London to see the Harry Potter Studios is very much of the same quality but the difference here is that you do get to see behind the scenes so much more. There are no rides - it is all about how the film was made and entering the film sets. If your daughter is a Harry Potter fan she will love it - it is both enjoyable and educational and good fun for adults as well. If you are only here for 6 days then you need to allow a whole day to see this as the studios are north of London itself and of course there is so much to see and do in the city anyway. I do think however that it will be worthwhile.

Hi Gloria,

I am a born and bred Londoner (and love it) and also a big Harry Potter fan (going to Universal in December very excited). I think my advice would be if when you have done your research and written your wish list of things to in London you think you have a day to spare to go to Leavesden then do. Its really all about your priorities. There are so many fabulous things to do in London. I imagine the tour is totally different to Universal, there are no rides but original props and sets. I was blown away by it. I hope whatever you decide you have a fabulous time and if I can help with any other questions let me know. Jennie W

Haven't been to the Orlando Harry Potter experience but from what I've read the London tour is not as "exciting" (ie. no rides & such) but the actual sets and tour in London are terrific. If you like the movies and want to see where it was actually filmed, its terrific.

I am certain it's worth it as it shows you how they made the film's. There are lot's of exhibits like the great hall to go in, it shows you how they made the film's. We stood outside privit drive, saw the night bus & the house in godricks hollow. Well worth a visit let me know if you go and what you thought please. We were there 5 hours. Have fun.

Hi There,

I have been fortunate enough to do both Florida and the U.K. studio tour. If your daughter is a fan of Harry I would recommend visiting, Florida park doesn't give you the amazing detail of how the film is made. It's a 3 hour tour, or as long as you want it to be! You get to see the actual movie set for things like Hagrid's Hut, Potion's class roo, the great hall and so so so much more!! A superb insight to the works of Harry Potter!

Hi there - if your daughter is a Harry Potter fan, you cannot go wrong by visiting this tour. She (and you) will be amazed. I know I was and although I like Harry Potter but would say I was not an avid fan. I went with my 'children' and they are 23 and 25!

I also want to thank people and apologize for not reading more of the questions earlier as I had also asked this question, but had also seen an HP exhibit in NYC and the studio tour in Hollywood (which is only a large room with costumes and other things in it). I haven't yet seen answers from those who saw these things but based on the answers given by those who had been to Fla, I think I'm sold.

For those who have not been to Universal Studios, DO IT. It's a wonderful experience but you need to do both parks to take the Hogwarts Express.

Absolutely definitely YES! This is the actual sets and props used during the filming, it is worth a visit as there is so much to see, you will not regret visiting.

Universal Florida is absolutely amazing and they have done a fantastic job, but this tour is the genuine article located at the studios where the films were made.

AND You now get to experience the actual Hogwarts Express as well, what more could we ask for! Enjoy yourselves, we do every time we visit.
