Hi All, in January my partner and i are booked in for 2 short nights (after a cruise ship) but we don't want to drive from cape town docks. What are your best recommends for getting there please, and then to the airport.
There are no public transport options for you to get from the city to Franschhoek, unless you catch the City Sightseeing hop on hop off bus that starts in the city and goes there via Bloubergstrand, and then just not return to the city, but it's expensive and unlikely that their one departure per day will coincide with your time of disembarking.
Your best option, if you don't want to hire a car, is to use Uber. It's the most cost effective and doesn't have to be booked in advance. If you do want to book in advance you can use any of the regular shuttle companies like City Shuttles (0827071135), Centurion (021 934 8281) or Sport24HRS (021 447 4444). They will all quote you a fixed price for the drive to Franschhoek. They will also pick you up again for your return trip to the airport.
Enjoy your stay in my beautiful country.
We also drove from Cape town and agree with Kent B that once you are in Franshoek you can either walk or they will organise transport. Hope this helps. The drive is easy and quite scenic from Cape Town
It is about an hour and a half drive from Cape Town. We rented a car which worked well and was very reasonable. I am sure you can rent a car but might be pricey? I will say this, you will not require a vehicle once you get to Leeu House, they are great about driving you to wherever you want to go in Franshoek.
In the end I made reservations with "Jarat Tours", Cape Town, though a little expensive the company and its drivers did a great job with our 4 journeys.
E class Mercs mostly are used. Our ship docked 4 hours late but Jarat were waiting for us. They were not so strong on showing our name at meeting points though.
