Seminyak does not have a huge surf beach but people were out in the water catching smaller waves
The beaches in Seminyak are not good for surfing, no waves. There is a lot of rubbish in the water so very few people venture in. Before staying in Seminyak we stayed 5 days in the Balian Beach area, which is much better for surfing. Balian beach was about a 2 hour drive from Seminyak. Very quiet area.
Yes, the beach is just outside the hotel.
In front of the hotel is Seminyak beach (which is part of a stretch of sand heading down to Legian and Kuta beach). For beginners, you can stroll down, find a board hire shop and someone to teach you how to 'stand up' and surf. For leading surf beaches and professional surfing, you need to drive to Uluwatu area - Bingin, Padang Padang, Dreamland - and you need to be experienced due to wave size, currents and reefs down there. For a great day out (wave watching and snorkelling) try Sunday's Beach Club, Pecatu, Uluwatu.
Yep, you can literally walk through the garden/pool area of the Anantara and onto the sand and into the surf. There are guys out front with boards to hire. It varies from day to day but there are certainly waves to catch.
