St. Regis Princeville Resort Questions & Answers

London

Hi, we are wanting to come in April next year.. my eldest son, aged 14, wants to surf. Is it safe here? Good surfing for beginners( he has been a few times in Japan but the surf is not great here), easily accessible from the hotel and what is the cost of lessons and hiring a board each day?

Thank you!

Mike

I took my 13 year old daughter to Hawaiian Surf Adventures about 10 minutes from the St. Regis. They use the small waves in the bay and also do lesson further out of needed. We paid $150 for and hour and a half lesson. Enjoy your vacation!

We took lessons on the south shore around Poipou. Never know how high the surf is on the north shore in April. Have fun, it is my favorite island with lots to do.

The beach at the St Regis is on a coral reef and is not good for surfing. Ask the congiere at the hotel.

This is not meant to dissuade you from surfing on Kauai, but please be careful. Kauai can be tricky in surfing as it does not have many of the protective reefs like Oahu does, especially for a beginner. The concierge can recommend a reputable surf rental/instructor business. Kauai is not known to have the best beaches in the State so pick wisely.

There are lots of locations around the island to surf

I'm assuming it would be reasonable price wise

Kauai is not the surfy destination that Maui is but many of the locals certainly do surf lots

If cost is an issue then Princeville is more expensive than the east island where we stayed, with only one road around the island to see the landscape certainly better to be located in the middle

Also that will help when looking at the waves fro surfing and getting to each beach where they might be good on any particular day
