My family have surprised me with a 4 night trip to NY in November staying at the Omni Berkshire to celebrate my 50th birthday - couple of questions - how do most people get from JFK airport to the hotel and also is it worth joining the hotel select guest loyalty programme?
Yes select guest program is worth it with free WiFi. I use Uber from Airport.
Agreed. Hotel will send a car and it's a flat rate and cheaper than cab. Also agree that Select Guest Rewards is a good idea, as they give you wifi for free.
Most people will get to the hotel from JFK by taxi. You could take the subway from Queens, NY if you are familiar with the subway. I personally do not recommend the subway as it not as pleasant. If you have luggage, the subway does not have the space if it is full.
For first time visitors it will be better to take Yellow Cab. When you arrive at the airport you will see them there at your terminal. Yellow Cab is regulated and operated by the city.
Joining the guest loyalty program will depend on what your needs are. For example, if you need fast internet or need to use live streaming you will save money by joining. If not, they will charge 19.95 USD for premium internet, per day. You will also have access to free beverages for joining, up to 3 in the morning. You will also have access to free newspapers. When you join, you will receive a voucher to fill out and hang them up on you door the night before.
I'm not sure about the transfer but I would definitely sign up for their rewards program. It's free and it does provide free wifi in your room. In addition to that we were given free room service coffee service in the morning. Enjoy your time here. The hotel is in a great locations!
Lovely surprise! We booked a private transfer. There are many companies that offer them. Was very smooth and knew the cost up front and helped with the return journey to the airport too. We didn’t sign up to the loyalty scheme as no need because we wouldn’t be using the chain again. If it’s WiFi you’d after then there’s loads of free places in NYC including on the street and subway!! You just need to connect at one of the interactive street signs (it tells you how) and then when you are around one you connect automatically. Very good.
What a wonderful surprise! My only suggestion would be to take a cab. It may be a bit costly but it is far more convenient. I’m really not familiar with any other means of transportation since I live locally. I’m not at all familiar with the loyalty program. Enjoy your stay. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
Call the hotel for their private car recommendation for airport transport. We did and it was less expensive than Uber or a taxi. Join the loyalty program for the free high speed WiFi and other benefits. Totally worth it.
I completely agree with Irene’s answer below. Exactly what my answer would be,
If it's free to join their program , I would. Check their website to see what you get by joining.
You can get to the Omni by taxi or Uber. I would check to see which is better by Googling that question.
It's a great location.
Enjoy. That's a lovely gift.
Apologies and I expect this is too late now. We joined the loyalty scheme for the free WIFI in the hotel so definately worth it just for that.
We arranged transfers with our tour operator, Virgin, to and from the airport. Apparently the train is also very easy
My wife and I found the quickest ,easiest and cheapest way $17 for metro card to get from JFK to the hotel was Airtrain to Sutphin blvd and then Blue line east to 5thAve/53st. You then literally have to walk round the corner 200 yards and you are at the Foyer of the fantastic Omni Berkshire hotel. We personally did not join the loyalty scheme for Internet access as have seen other reviews you will get charged but this is a personal preference hope you have a fantastic birthday
