Hi i am taking my husband two teenage kids and a family friend on our first trip over seas ever. The travel agent suggested the Aston Waikiki sunset as we are wanting a place that has two single beds one queen and a fold out couch so i went on line to read reviews on the place and most peole are saying the place is dated there is staines on the carpets and furniture and that rooms were dirty and even some have said they got bitten by bed bugs this is not painting a nice picture of the place this is a trip of a life time for me and my family and i dont want an unpleasant holiday could some one post recent photos of the Aston Waikiki and any one thats stay there recently please tell me of there experience kind regards from Australians
We were there in December 2016 and our rooms had NONE of the negative comments mentioned by other reviewers. We had two one-bedroom units between our family members and were very comfortable. I don't know the age of this condo - but it looked to us like it has been nicely maintained. We were very pleased.
Keep in mind that this is the tropics; ants, flies, cockroaches, geckos, etc. all live here too. As a guest, keeping food areas free of crumbs, closing all containers tightly, putting open items in the fridge (like cereal, crackers, cookies) is wise. Always close the screen door to your lanai. If needed, the property usually can come and spray in your room or provide a can of bug spray. If worried, bring your own (helpful for picnics) and mosquito spray if you travel to humid areas especially at night.
Hi we were there in April and made our booking via our travel agent who in turn would have dealt with the hotel and not individual owners. We had no problem with our room which was clean, neat and tidy. All staff were very helpful and no complaints from us. Having read other comments yes it could be luck of the draw. We travelled as a couple so did not require a family room or extra beds. It certainly isn't an upmarket hotel and there are plenty of those in close proximity.
Are you booking through a private owner or the hotel itself? The rooms booked through the hotel are updated and nice. Granite counters and all. With daily maid service. There is a standard for those rooms. If you book through a private owner, you get what they give. Some owners units are nicer than others. I have stayed here more than once and have never heard of anyone having bugs. I will tell you the hallways are in need of updating. But not dirty. The pool area has no umbrellas because its in the shade practically all day. There are grills out there too. Makes for a cheap night of burgers and dogs by the pool.My kids love it. I would recommend staying there to anyone. Its location cant be beat.
Hi Tracey, I've just been reading all the other answers to this question, and they all vary in view. It was our first time to Hawaii and we took our 22 year old son with us, and flew our other over from Vancouver for a family holiday. We stayed in an apartment on the 33rd floor. I was so disappointed because I wanted it to be a great experience for the family and stay in nice accommodation, but our room was pretty shabby for a hotel, although the beds are comfy. It seems some of the rooms are in better condition than others, so I guess its the luck of the draw. Its hard to find accommodation in Waikiki that is value, plus can accommodate a family. The pool area was just that a pool with some deck chairs, with no shade or umbrellas. If your family likes to hang by the pool, I would choose a place with a better pool area. If its a trip of a lifetime, you don't want to be disappointed, but then maybe this hotel has all you need for your requirements. I hope this was helpful.
We stayed here in late May and the room was dull and needed cleaning. We have stayed there numerous times before but not again. Each room is different because the owners do the furniture. We had a room on the higher floors for the ocean view, which was lovely.
We stayed there in late May - outdated rooms and in need of a good cleaning. We have had different furniture depending on the room (have stayed there several times over the years). The quality and the appeal differ, last one bedroom was boring and dull. The highest floors give a great view of the ocean. We do not plan to stay there again and we have been to the islands numerous times. sorry
HI. We stayed there in May. We had a great room. The building and rooms are bit dated but they are ok. We did not have bugs. The staff are helpful. We had a room which had 2 bedrooms. It had a queen bed in each. There was also a fold out bed in the lounge area. I would stay there again for sure. Two blocks back from the beach but an easy walk and you can always pop into the ABC store and get goodies on the way back to your room.
We went at Easter with 23 family members had 5 rooms & they were all great. Very spacious & clean with great views, rooms cleaned each day, no tips expected, beds extremely comfortable, roomy kitchen with everything you need. Pool area terrific with BBQ area. The reception people do anything for you & are very pleasant. We had one problem a leaky aircon & they gave us a new room no problems. Hotel only 100m from the beach, bars, shops & good eateries. Great hotel & perfect position.
Hi, we stayed at the Aston Waikiki Sunset earlier this year. We are a family of 5 and I did quite a bit of online research before going with this one. It is good value, with a good location, but it is old as are a lot of properties I would say, however was nice and clean. The 2 bedroom apartment was very small, but you get used to it. It really depends on your budget really.
I went with my family to Hawai'i was definitely a trip of a lifetime, yes it's dated, but the beds are definitely comfortable, great to have all your own facilities in your room, and it's soo close to the beach, it's a great place for the price, and when you get over there, you will realise it is an older area, and it is not that bad, the service is amazing, room service came everyday and made sure we had fresh linen and room was clean, you can definitely pay more to stay in a more fancier place, but as fellow Australians, we thoroughly enjoyed, plus we met plenty of other Aussies staying there too, and locals and people from all over the world, hope this helps, enjoy every minute of your trip
Hi sorry for late answer!! Only just realised there was a question!
If you are wanting 5 star this isn't it, but it's handy to most things, the beds were comfortable and clean, no bed bugs!! But....do get some bleach for the bathroom, that needed a good clean!! Honestly though, it's fine, anything better is really, really expensive. We loved Hawaii, but have just got back from Fiji, and Fiji beats Hawaii hands down!!!
