Bondi to Coogee Walk Questions & Answers

Bloomington, Minnesota

I'm the typical arachnophobe and keep hearing stories about the spiders. Are there spiders around here or places you can suggest to avoid seeing the huntsmen, etc?

Living in Sydney you will hear about spider stories. If you park your car under Bush land there is potential for spiders to make their way into your car however in my 20 odd years driving I have only encountered one spider. On the walk there are likely to be spiders hidden in the rock face or in bushes however they do not generally wander around all over the place and especially where there is a lot of foot traffic. Do not fear the spiders, you are likely to see none unless you go for a spider hunt

Hi Laura. I too am an arachnophobe and so is my sister. We have constantly been on the lookout and never came across any spiders on this walk or anywhere else during my 2 week trip. It's a great experience and wish you all the best in your travels.

No, as the walk is by the sea and in the open the wind and salt air keep the spiders away

The major spiders you MAY see are golden orbs and huntsmen, or more precisely, their webs. They are harmless. The most toxic spiders you are unlikely to see namely, the red- back which is more scared of you than the reverse, and the funnel- web, that lives in little holes in the ground to trap insects. Can I suggest you work on this phobia as spiders are essential creatures for helping to keep the insect population under control.

Hello Laura! I tend to agree with guys above. Aussies (at least my friends) love scaring foreigners with spider stories but I've never seen any in lookout or on the walk. You can find spiders mostly in old buildings (huntsman) or in bushes so don't worry and enjoy the walk!
