Arriving at Guadalajaro

If you've been considering a holiday in the sun, why not look for cheap flights to Guadalajaro, Mexico? You'll find an abundance of them on the Internet, and after you touch down in this historical mecca, you'll find yourself breezing through customs into a modern and well set out international airport. The Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla Airport lies 16 kilometres from downtown Guadalajaro, and is equipped with banks, ATM's and business conference rooms.

Transport around the city is well catered for, with the inexpensive light rail system being a favourite of locals and tourists alike. There are two lines, north to south, and east from Juarez station, where you'll find beautiful murals by the famous Jose Clemente Orozco. The Tren Ligero as it's known is a great way to the see the city, but if the line doesn't take you where you want to go, the bus system is more extensive and very reasonably priced.

If you'd prefer to take a taxi, you could ask a local "¿Disculpe, donde esta el sitio taxi, por favor?" and they'll be happy to direct you to the nearest taxi stand, but be sure to negotiate the price with the driver before you start. Rental car offices are located throughout the city if you'd rather drive, and bookings can be made online when you settle your airfare to Guadalajaro.

Main Attractions in Guadalajaro

Guadalajaro is a historical city, and the grand, cathedric architecture that abounds in the city is wonderful to behold. The famous artist Orozco's murals adorn the centre of the city, which has been built as 4 squares in the shape of a cross. Match this against the colour and excitement of mariachi musicians everywhere " Guadalajaro is the birthplace of this exciting form of Mexican music " and add a touch of tequila, and you'll be ready for anything!

The Tequila Express runs from Guadalajaro every Saturday morning, and offers tours to the birthplace of this iconic Mexican beverage. The party on the train and the visit to the Hacienda are a definite highlight! If you'd like to clear your head afterwards, try a day at Bosque de la Primavera, with its forest hiking trails and hot springs, it's a great way to recharge your batteries.

Shopping, Dining and Nightlife

At the eastern end of the Historico district, you can shop til' you drop at the Mercado Libertad, the largest covered market in Mexico. Nearby is the district of Tonal which is home to swathes of craftsmen and artists, and if you head there on a Sunday the open air market is vibrant and colourful way to spend your morning.

The hub of shopping in Guadalajaro is located in the suburbs. Tlaquepaque is closed off to traffic so that you can safely wander through more than 300 specialty shops. Visit at night and have dinner at one of the many fine restaurants before dancing the night away to mariachi and don't forget the tequila! You'll have so much fun you'll be looking up flights to Guadalajaro for next year's vacation as well.
