Arriving in Valencia

Cheap flights to Valencia depart from Manchester Airport as well as Gatwick and Stansted airports near London. EU and UK citizens do not require a visa to enter Spain. Flights to Valencia will arrive at Valencia Airport. Taxis can be hired from the taxi rank opposite the arrivals hall of the terminal building. The route 150 bus offers frequent services between the airport and Valencia city centre. Metro Valencia operates two subway lines connecting the airport to Valencia. The trains are available from the ground floor of the regional terminal.

Getting Around Valencia

Most of the city centre can easily be explored on foot. Valenbisi offers rental bikes at various locations throughout the city. Tickets can be purchased at rental terminals located at all bicycle stations throughout the city. Metro Valencia operates a series of colour-coded subway and tram lines linking Valencia to surrounding suburbs. Check the website for more information about fares, routes and timetables. EMT manages the local buses around the city and neighbouring regions. Single tickets can be purchased on board the bus. A number of travel cards are also available. Travel cards can be purchased from Metro stations and kiosks around the city.

Main Attractions

The sprawling City of Arts and Sciences is an eyecatching complex along the Turia river. Futuristic-looking buildings house a planetarium, an aquarium, an IMAX cinema as well as a science museum. Go back in time with a trip through the Barrio del Carmen, Valencia’s attractive old town. Take in historic sites such as the Torres de Serrano, once a part of the city’s fortified walls. Discover the imposing Lljota de la Seda, once the centre of the city’s silk trade. Explore the striking Valencia Cathedral, with its mishmash of architectural styles. A trip up the Micalet (or belfry) is worth it for the splendid views over Valencia.

Shopping, Dining and Nightlife

LLadro porcelain is one of Valencia’s most famous exports, and a trip to the factory provides an insight into the manufacturing process. Visit the retail outlet nearby to pick up a couple of pieces as souvenirs. The massive Mercado Central is a tourist attraction as well as a popular shopping destination. Locals have been shopping for groceries and household goods here for centuries. It is a great place to pick up some ingredients for an impromptu picnic. The Barrio del Carmen area is a popular nightlife spot, with plenty of trendy clubs and bars lining its historic streets. Head to the Casa Montana, a 150 year old tavern, for some tasty tapas and paella.
