Arriving in Nassau

Lynden Pindling International Airport is the final destination for flights to Nassau in the Bahamas. There are a few concessions such as a café and a couple of souvenir and bookshops as well as a small duty-free shop. There is also a bank and free wireless Internet access in this airport. Passengers arriving on Nassau flights have limited transportation options from the airport. There are metered taxis outside but no shuttle or bus. You can also arrange your own ground transport when you book your airfare to Nassau.

Getting Around Nassau

Taxis in Nassau are pretty expensive, and the drivers will not use a meter. You should negotiate a fare before using a cab there. There is a mini-bus, or "jitney", system that is cheap to use and will take you to many locations such as the beaches and local attractions. They stop running after 6 PM, and service is very limited on Sundays, so you will need to use the taxis during jitney downtimes. You can also use a water taxi to go to Paradise Island. It charges a very reasonable round-trip fare, but it stops running at 6 PM. You can also rent cars, scooters, or bicycles on Nassau or see the sights on foot.

Main Attractions in Nassau

You can walk through Old Town Nassau and see genuine Caribbean architecture as well as derelict buildings and the interesting, bright pink Parliament House. Nassau is home to the only zoo in the Bahamas - the Ardastra Gardens, Zoo & Conservation Centre. A tour of the Pirate Museum is a fun activity that does not cost much. Many visitors also enjoy bus tours and trips to Paradise Island where they can visit the casinos, the aquarium, and the Atlantis resort area.

Shopping, Dining, and Nightlife in Nassau

If you do a little research you can find cheap flights to Nassau. Take the money you saved to visit the Straw Market where you can haggle for some local goods. If you are interested in seafood and fresh produce you should go to Potter's Cay, where you will find fish, prepared conch delicacies, and exotic fruits and vegetables. Nassau has a lot of small eateries that serve the local fish dinners fairly cheap. You can also find more high-end seafood places along the beach. There are plenty of international restaurants and familiar fast food eateries as well. Nassau is a party place with a boisterous nightlife, which is why a lot of college students go there for spring break.
