Arriving in Guernsey

Cheap flights to Guernsey depart from Gatwick and Stansted airports in London, as well as from Manchester Airport. Flights to Guernsey may also be available from other regional airports around the UK. A valid passport or ID card is required for those travelling from outside the UK or Republic of Ireland. The number 4 and number 7 bus routes, operated by Island Coachways, provide frequent services between the airport, St. Peter Port and other destinations around Guernsey. Taxis can be hired from the taxi rank just outside the terminal building.

Getting Around Guernsey

The island is fairly compact, so it is possible to get around by bicycle. Island Coaches provides a network of buses around Guernsey. There is a flat fare of £1 for all journeys, regardless of distance. Tickets can be purchased from the bus driver. Ormer smartcards are available to those planning on using the bus services regularly. The smartcards help save up to 50% off the regular fare price. Taxis and minibuses can be hired through the island.

Main Attractions

Explore the ancient fortifications of Castle Cornet with a guided tour, and stay for the spectacular Noon Day Gun ceremony. The fortress also has a number of museums within its grounds. Spend a day at beautiful Sausmarez Manor to discover its magical sculpture park and subtropical gardens. The Little Chapel is one of the smallest chapels in the world, and was decorated with thousands of seashells and glass mosaics by a Brother Deodat. Take in a guided tour of Victor Hugo’s lavishly decorated house and learn about the years he spent in exile on Guernsey.

Shopping, Dining and Nightlife

The Victorian Shop and Parlour is run by the National Trust of Guernsey. The house has been turned into a 19th century style shop selling sweets, preserves, flower and vegetable seeds as well as many locally-made gifts. A farmers’ market takes place on the grounds of Sausmarez Manor every Saturday. The stalls offer fresh produce, homemade preserves and cakes, and bric-a-brac and antiques. There is also a copper tin and silversmiths’ workshop here where visitors can learn about traditional methods of production, and pick up some of the finished objects on their way out. Enjoy a pint while watching the sun set outside The Rockmount in Cobo Bay. Pack a picnic and take in a play or some live music at Castle Cornet’s outdoor theatre. Dance the night away at Les Folie d’Amour, Guernsey’s oldest nightclub.
