Arriving in Cardiff

Cheap flights to Cardiff are available all year round. Flights to Cardiff depart from regional airports around the UK. Most flights to Cardiff arrive at Cardiff Airport in the village of Rhoose. Trains into Cardiff are available from Rhoose Cardiff International Airport railway station. Free shuttle bus services from the departure terminal help ferry passengers to the railway station. A few companies provide regular bus services from the airport to Cardiff city centre. Buses depart from in front of the terminal building. Checker Cars operates a 24-hour taxi service from the booking office outside the airport terminal.

Getting Around Cardiff

Cardiff Bus operates a network of buses around the city centre and to the wider Cardiff metropolitan areas. Network Dayrider cards are valid on all Cardiff bus routes and on some other routes in the South East. The iff smartcard can be preloaded with credit and used throughout the Cardiff Bus network. Taxis can be flagged down in the street, but it is advisable to book them by calling in advance. Trains are available from Cardiff Central Station, and stop at various stops around the Cardiff metropolitan area and through Wales.

Main Attractions

Cardiff Castle sits in the heart of the city and is undoubtedly the city’s main attraction. The castle is laid out in a variety of architectural styles, reflecting its eventful past. Castell Coch on the city’s outskirts is also worth a visit for its impressive fortifications and fairytale spires. The Norwegian Church used to serve the Norwegian sailors stationed in Cardiff, but these days it has been transformed into an art gallery and community centre. Spend a day exploring Bute Park and discover the Gorsedd stones or see the animal figures along the top of the Animal Wall.

Shopping, Dining and Nightlife

The futuristic Millennium Centre is a one-stop destination for shopping, dining and entertainment. Enjoy contemporary Welsh cuisine at ffresh or pick up some porcelain souvenirs at the Portmeirion shop. Watch an acclaimed musical or play, or just wander around the foyer and catch the free live performances. Explore the quaint Victorain shopping arcades in the Castle Quarter and discover a wealth of quirky shops and little cafes. Visit Spillers Records in Morgan Arcade – it’s the oldest record shop in the world, and stocks a variety of music. The store also puts on plenty of live performances, so is a great venue to catch an up-and-coming band. Clwb Ifor Bach is one of the most popular nightclubs in Cardiff, playing a mix of alternative music as well as Welsh pop.
