Arriving in Aberdeen

Cheap flights to Aberdeen depart from Manchester Airport as well as Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton airports near London. Flights to Aberdeen may also be available from other regional airports around the UK. Stagecoach Bluebird and First Bus both operate services from the airport to Aberdeen. The 80 Dyce AirLink Bus offers shuttle services to Dyce Railway Station, about 15 minutes away. Trains depart from Dyce station to Aberdeen and other destinations around Scotland. Train tickets can be purchased on board the train. Taxis operated by Comcab can be hired from the taxi rank just outside the terminal.

Getting Around Aberdeen

Aberdeen is a fairly compact city so it is possible to get most of the city centre on foot. Look out for the pedestrian maps located around the city to help navigate about. First and Stagecoach both operate bus services around the city centre and surrounding suburbs. Check the respective websites for route maps and timetables. Stored value Travelcards and a variety of other season tickets are available from First, and can only be used within the First network in Aberdeen. Taxis are easily available within the city centre but fares may be rather high.

Main Attractions

Discover the charming buildings of Old Aberdeen with a walk around the city. The imposing Gothic bulk of the Marischal Museum houses a massive collection of artefacts covering over eight thousand years of history. The museum has a rotating display of temporary exhibitions, as well as a permanent exhibition devoted to the history of the North-East. Stroll around the campus of King’s College and visit the King’s College Chapel. Learn about the history of one of the army’s most famous regiments at the Gordon Highlanders Museum. Footdee is a scenic little fishing village on the edge of Aberdeen, with a mix of architectural styles ranging from neat chocolate box cottages to ramshackle wooden huts.

Shopping, Dining and Nightlife

Union Street is Aberdeen’s main shopping stretch. It is lined with a variety of high street names including BHS and Waterstone’s. The Academy is a covered shopping centre with a number of popular, trendy brand names as well as some independent shops. It also has a few eateries including Konnichi, a restaurant offering Asian-fusion cuisine. Visit One Up Records to discover some local music or pick up some second-hand records. Howie’s on Chapel Street is a light, casual restaurant offering modernised Scottish fare. Try the cullen skink served with Balmoral bread, or a chorizo and black pudding salad. Liquid is Aberdeen’s leading nightclub, with a roster of popular DJs providing the nightly entertainment.
