There are two major airports in Berlin: Tegel and Schonefeld. Tegel is the main international airport for the city, situated just 5 miles northwest of the city centre. It currently deals with over 15 million passengers per year so there should be no problem getting a good price on airfare to Berlin. However, it is scheduled to close when the new Berlin-Branderburg International Airport is scheduled to open in 2012.

Schonefeld is approximately 12 miles southeast of the city centre. It used to be the old East Berlin airport and is where a lot of Charter airlines fly to and from. Therefore, it is probably best for getting cheap flights to Berlin.

From Tegel, there are a wide variety of bus services to help you get around. You can get a bus from the airport to the nearby underground and main railway lines, or you can stay on the bus and travel straight to the city centre. From Schonefeld the best way to get into the city centre is the Airport Express, which takes only around 30 minutes. However, you can also use the bus to get to nearby underground and mainline stations.

As a major European city, the transport infrastructure is very good with buses, underground and mainline train services. Taxis are also readily available for getting from the airports to the city centre and for general travelling around.

There are numerous attractions in the city of Berlin, giving visitors a lot to do after their flights to Berlin. The Berliner Dom, or Berlin Cathedral, is the largest and most important church in the city. This beautiful baroque building also houses many significant works of art. The Brandenburg Gate is probably one of Berlin's most important monuments. It has become a symbol of the now reunited city of Berlin, as before it was located behind the Berlin wall. Checkpoint Charlie is another well-known landmark, probably the most infamous border crossing of the Cold War era.

Berlin has long been recognised as one of the top spots for nightlife in Europe, with a wide variety of bars and clubs catering to visitors 24 hours a day.

The Ku'damm shopping area is probably the most famous place for shops in Berlin and consists of big department stores as well as trendy designer-boutiques. It features the KaDeWe department store, which has superb food halls and stocks all the best international designer brands. As the capital and largest city in Germany, Berlin is home to a wide variety of restaurants. Traditional German cuisine includes many pork dishes and there is a long tradition of sausage making. So once you have your Berlin flights booked there will be no shortage of things to do when you arrive.
