Getting Around Israel

There are many transport options in the country and the most affordable of all is the bus, but modern advances in the railway system have made the trains an excellent alternative. There are 4 train stations in Tel Aviv and 6 in Haifa. Buses and trains are usually loaded with soldiers, but this should not shock tourists since these incidents are quite common. Be advised that there are no transport options during the Sabbath, so make sure to be right where you want to be between Friday sundown and Saturday sundown. You also have the option of hiring a taxi or renting a car.

Main Attractions in Israel

Head to Jerusalem to visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Western Wall and the Temple Mount. Up north in Galilee, you can see the Zfat synagogues, the Rosh Ha-Nikra grottos, the Akhziv beach, and the Roman Beit-Shean. Visit Mt. Benal in Goala Heights and have a kayaking adventure on the Jordan River. For swimming and nightlife, head over to Tel Aviv, but don't forget to view the Beit-Govrin caves as well. If you want to try floating, dip into the salty waters of the Dead Sea at the Israeli border. Looking for a fantastic view of nature? Visit the Negev Desert or the Eilat Mountains.

Shopping, Dining, and Nightlife in Israel

Flights to Israel are popular for many reasons, including the shopping. There are many good shopping malls in Israel including the Kenion, the Muslim Quarter and the Jewish Quarter in Jerusalem, the Mall Ha'Yam in Eilat, the Tel Aviv markets, and several flea markets in various locations. Many restaurants serve kosher foods, based from the Jewish tradition. National specialties include falafel, shwarma, shishlik and Ashkenazi classics. National drinks include Gold Star, Maccabe, and Sabra. Nightlife in Jerusalem, the Holy Land, is mostly discreet, but the bars and nightclubs in Tel Aviv are livelier. Be advised that not tipping in the restaurants and bars is frowned upon. By virtue of law, 15 percent service charges are required.
