Arriving at Cairo

Cairo International is one of the fastest growing airports in the Middle East. There are three terminals serving all passengers. Lounges, kiosks with internet access and business centres with telecommunication services are conveniently located throughout the terminals. Before booking your flight to Cairo, be sure contact the nearest Egyptian consulate to find out the pertinent visa requirements for your nationality. Entry visas ares required along with a valid passport for non-Egyptian visitors. If you are not carrying any restricted goods nor more goods than the duty free limit allows, you may proceed to the green channel and exit.

Transportation in and around Cairo

Once you disembark in Cairo, you have a choice of transportation. The Cairo Shuttle bus transports passengers to downtown Cairo, Giza, Nasr-city and other popular destinations. Taxis are available outside the terminals and operate on a flat-fee basis. A Limousine service is also available with valet services if needed. When booking your flight to Cairo, you might want to reserve a rental vehicle at the same time.

Main attractions

Buy a cheap ticket to Cairo and experience adventure: the history of ancient civilization, magical landscapes, extraordinary cultural diversity and the great mystery that is the pyramids of Giza. Islamic Cairo is a world heritage site with historic mosques as well as Egypt's most famous Basilican hanging Church, which is not to be missed. Cairo has many interesting museums including the Solar Boat Museum displaying a 4,500 year old solar boat built for the Pharaoh Khufu Cheops to use in the afterlife. This alone is well worth the airfare to Cairo.

Shopping, Dining and Nightlife

From some of the most exclusive restaurants along the Nile to one of the many outdoor cafés where you can smoke a sheesha or enjoy a shai (tea), Cairo overflows with amazing culinary delights. For Mediterranean delicacies, try La Bodega or L'Aubergine, which serve unique vegetarian entrees, or El-Omda where you can try the local favorite kosheri. Cairo offers the best of Middle Eastern cuisine. Highly recommended is Ghash, a traditional fuul restaurant, where you can hang out with the locals and enjoy their local cuisine.

Baladi bars are popular and many are located in downtown Cairo. Many cultural events take place throughout the year at the National Cultural Center in Gezira Island, so before booking a Cairo flight, check the event listing. Popular with tourists is Sufi dancing, and performances can be seen on Wednesday and Saturday evenings at the Ghouri Caravansary. Finally, the Cairo Jazz club is a popular destination on weekends and well worth the visit.

Buy a ticket to Cairo and experience the ultimate shopping trip. Visit Khan Khalili where you can bargain for trinkets and treasures. Buy a tarboosh from Mohammed Al Tarabishi or embroidered cushions from Khan Khameyya, and if belly-dancing classes back home lay await in your future, purchase a traditional costume at Mahmoud El Ghaffar and impress your friends.
