Arriving at Langkawi

Langkawi International Airport is the main hub for flights to Langkawi, a Malaysian archipelago. It is a small, basic airport, but there are still amenities for passengers such as the duty-free shop, a café, and some eateries. Passengers on Langkawi flights still have access to cash machines and telephones. If you want to find cheap flights to Langkawi, you should consider booking a vacation package through a travel agency or one of the online travel sites. You can get a substantial discount on airfare to Langkawi if you reserve it with your lodging.

Getting Around Langkawi

If you prefer to use a rental car, you should make the arrangements in advance to ensure you get a nicer car. Rentals are recommended because the public transportation in Langkawi is quite limited. Along with cars you can rent motorcycles and scooters. There may be people touting rental vehicles in the streets for cheap prices, but do not use these operators. Only rent from legitimate companies and purchase insurance with the best coverage available. You should also keep maps with you at all times. Fuel is not too expensive, but the fill stations can be pretty far apart, so make sure you have adequate fuel for each trip.

Langkawi Main Attractions

There are many lovely beaches in Langkawi where a lot of the resorts are located. Visitors can sunbathe or engage in a number of water sports along the coast. Another place of interest is the Seven Wells Waterfall, which is an enormous waterfall with seven branching bathing pools and a couple of viewing platforms. One very entertaining venue is the Crocodile Farm where guests can watch wrestling matches between people and crocs or ride in a rickshaw pulled by crocodiles. Art enthusiasts may enjoy the abstract art exhibits at the Ibrahim Hussein Foundation Museum.

Shopping, Dining, and Nightlife in Langkawi

Do not get carried away in the duty-free shop at the airport because all of Langkawi is a duty-free zone. There are a lot of great bargains to be had all over the island. The most popular items are tobacco, chocolates, and batik crafts. Places you should check out for great shopping are Zon Duty-Free Shopping Complex and Kuah Town. Most visitors enjoy local seafood when they visit Langkawi, as it is plentiful and inexpensive. However, you have to be on the lookout for restaurants that try to overcharge the tourists. The tax-free status of Langkawi allows guests to pick up some really cheap liquor as well. Resorts have a multitude of bars and discos for an enjoyable night out in this Malaysian city.
