Arriving in Charleston

Charleston, a seaport city found in the state of South Carolina is served by Charleston International Airport. The airport is situated 12 miles northwest of downtown Charleston and Internet access is available throughout its terminals. Tourists on Charleston flights can reach downtown from the airport via taxi. Shuttles arranged by Airport Ground Transportation are also available. CARTA runs a bus service in Charleston. Bus 11 takes tourists downtown. Rental cars are accessible regardless of the terminal a passenger lands at. Rental car agencies include but are not limited to Avis, Dollar and National.

Getting Around Charleston

Charleston can be explored by vehicle or on foot. The public transportation system in the city consists of buses operated by the Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA). CARTA also runs four Downtown Area Shuttles, namely DASH 210, 211, 212, and 213. This shuttle service is useful for those who do not wish to explore downtown on foot. Taxis are inexpensive in Charleston yet are often difficult to find. Charleston Green Taxis are commonly seen in the city. The Gray Line of Charleston provides guided mini-bus tours of the city. Horse-drawn carriages are also available.
