Dalaman is a city and region on the southwest coast of Turkey, situated in the Muglan province. You can get cheap flights to Dalaman International Airport. Although it used to be quite a small airport, it has recently been expanded, as the whole region is very popular with tourists and people buying second homes. The new Dalaman ATM International Terminal can now cope with a large number of passengers every year, so getting a good deal on an airfare to Dalaman is now possible. With over 60 check-in counters now built and fully equipped, getting in and out of the airport is a relatively quick and streamlined process. It also now has all the conveniences expected of a modern airport such as banks, foreign exchange bureaus and fast wireless Internet access.
As a major hub of the tourist industry in the Turkish Riviera, transportation links are reasonably good. There are frequent bus services in the region, including shuttle services from the airport to the major nearby holiday resorts such as Marmaris and Fethiye. These services are provided by Havas Land Services, who have a fleet of mini-buses and modern coaches to help transport tourists around the region. There are always lots of taxis available as well at the airport. After flights to Dalaman have landed you can also find several companies to rent a car from in the airport. These include well-known companies such as Avis, Budget and Europcar.
The popular seaside resorts to the west and east of the city are probably the major attractions of this region. Marmaris is well known for its beaches and various water sports. Sailing and diving are popular activities that are well provided for with two marinas. There are also stunning water parks in the region or you may enjoy a cruise trip to the Cleopatra Isle. There is a popular ferry service to Rhodes too, which many people on Dalaman flights use to get to their final destination.
Fethiye is another popular resort not far from the airport built on the ancient city of Telmessos. There are ruins still standing, which can be visited such as the Hellenistic Theatre which is close to the main quay. The local museum has many artifacts on display from the various civilisations that have existed at some point in the area.
In Dalaman itself there are many shops, bars, restaurants and even tea gardens. The Burc Restaurant and Bar has music, a large dance floor, and also a large swimming pool. The Nil Restaurant serves excellent steak and fish dishes. It is situated next to the river and from the terrace you can feed the resident turtles. There are quaint markets where you can buy local handmade goods and souvenirs as well. Marmaris is the most developed area in the region and has a nightlife to rival anywhere on the Turkish coast. Here you can find many discos, and places where there are local displays of belly dancing. The food and drink includes traditional Turkish food such as Hamsi, a popular Turkish fish, to traditional British fish and chips; and raki, an aniseed-based spirit, to red wine. In Fethiye you will also find lots more authentic and traditional Turkish cuisine in abundance.
