Arriving at Kos

Kos is a popular tourist destination within the Greek Islands of Dodecanese and is located in the Southeastern section of the Aegean Sea. It is the third largest island within the group and is the second most popular tourist attraction next to Rhodes. You are able to gain access to Kos by travelling from Athens Airport using either Olympic Air or Aegean Airlines. Charter flights to Kos can be purchased from many European airports between the months of May and October. You are also able to get to Kos by using ferry services from the Turkish coasts, which are offered by the Bodrum Ferryboat Association.

Getting Around Kos

Other than the cheap flights to Kos, there are other modes of affordable transportation to take tourists around the city. Whether you travel by bus, ferry, taxi or a rented scooter, you will be able to explore every part of the island. A public bus service, the Municipal Bus Company is available from the airport and departure times can be found at the bus stops. Three ferry companies offer the ferry service to Kos; these companies are the Blue Star Ferries, G&A Ferries and ANE Kalymnou. Cars and scooters can be hired from many places such as Budget Rent a Car and Car Hire Kos. For the more active tourist, there are also bicycle rentals available.

What you can see in Kos

Airfare to Kos will buy you time to relax on a beach, sightsee or go wind and kite surfing. Key attractions include archaeological sites containing a mix of ancient ruins that are located around certain beach resorts. The 15th century Knights Castle of St. John is one of the most impressive monuments built in the Venetian period and with its defensive walls and moat, it remains a star attraction. The Archaeological Museum hosts a fine collection of Roman mosaics and sculptures that date back to the third century. Kos also boasts a beautiful and fertile countryside as well as outstanding beaches and traditional fishing villages.

Shopping, Dining and Nightlife

Kos has a large number of taverns and restaurants where tourists can enjoy traditional dishes. In addition to the traditional dance and island music, Kos also offers modern nightclubs, discos and bars that cater for all tastes and age groups. Some restaurants include the Taverna Mike, Faliron and Petrino. Bars and restaurants are situated together at the Akti Kountouriotou, which is the promenade of Kos. Clubs such as Downtown, Flamingo's and Flashbax offer a wide range of music to please both the locals and various tourists seeking an entertaining nightlife.
