What we did, what we liked, what surprised us about Milan

  • Category: Recent trip
  • 1. Canal district

Gentle walk along Strada Alzaia Naviglio Grande and Naviglio Pavese. The are is not unlike the Cannereggia district of Venice. See the old harbour basin and the old wash houses and the stones where the laundry was done. Cool, quiet, peaceful.

  • 2. Brera Palace

This had a dual purpose for us. While I worked in the extravagantly beautiful library, my husband visited the art gallery. A charming area of Milan.

  • 3. Ristorante Giglio rosso, Piazza Luigi di Savoia

Our favourite restaurant. Quite exceptional food and very reasonably priced. Our bill for 2 never exceeded 65 euros.

  • 4. Castello Sforzesco

A whole day out. It could take a whole day to see all the museum, but there's the park, too. One of the best displayed historical museums I know.

  • 5. Trattoria del Corso, Corso Garibaldi 12

Our favourite 'simple' restaurant. Good home cooking, full of locals. Exceptional value.
