Texas on my mind

30 Jul 2007  Born and raised in Texas
3.5 of 5 stars based on 5 votes

Texas is my home state. The longer I am away the more I miss it. I thought I would share a few of my favorite Texas destinations with the rest of the world.

  • 1. Gruene, Texas
    New Braunfels, Texas

Gruene is a quaint small town with one of the best dancehalls in Texas. While there you have to eat at the Gristmill. Of course no visit to Gruene is complete without floating down the Guadalupe River. This is my perfect Texas weekend!

  • 2. Big Bend National Park
    Big Bend National Park, Texas

If you want to experience the rustic west, Big Bend is the place to go. The hiking and camping in Big Bend is exceptional. While there you have to visit Terlingua and eat at the only Mexican food place in town. It is BYOB, so you can walk across the street to the convenience store and pick up a six pack of Lone Star to go with your authentic Mexican meal. After that visit La Keva (the cave) bar where an impromtu jam session is sure to break out. If your up for spending a little cash, head over to Lajitas where an upscale resort with an excellent golf course is located. Take it slow and easy and set no time schedules. This is the best way to experience the southwest.

  • 3. Austin
    Austin, Texas

Austin has a great music scene and an exciting night life. Austin is located in the Texas hill country, which is possibly the most beautiful area in Texas. Austin has something to suit everyone's taste.

  • 4. San Antonio
    San Antonio, Texas

For the best Tex Mex in the world, San Antonio is the place to go. Visit the Riverwalk for a true Texican experience.

  • 5. Lubbock
    Lubbock, Texas

I went to school in this great college town. Visit in the fall and go to a Texas Tech football game for a true taste of West Texas football. Arrive early and enjoy the tailgating experience. Don't let the bland landscape fool you, Lubbock is home to some of the nicest people in the world. Head to the Depot District in the evening and visit Hub City Brewery for some live music and excellent beer. Stop by the Buddy Holly museum while your there.
