  • Explore locations featured in this Trip List: Aitutaki
  • Category: Perfect week or more
  • Traveler type: Sightseeing, Beachgoers
  • Appeals to: Couples/romantics, Honeymooners
  • Seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall
  • 1. Lagoon Tours
    Aitutaki, Southern Cook Islands

The Yellow Boat (Aitutaki Adventures) is excellent for the lagoon cruise! Puna is a great host and his wife Tutu makes an incredible lunch on One-Foot Island.

  • 2. Dining In
    Aitutaki, Southern Cook Islands

There are places to get some groceries if you have a self-catering villa, but another option is to visit Tauono's Cafe near the Etu Moana Beach Villas. Sonja or Tauono generally have great produce and fruit, or you can ask if they have some pre-made meals. We bought a breadfruit lasagne which we heated up on the stove and had it along with fried breadfruit chips, starfruit salsa, and salad - all from Sonja/Tauono. Much easier than making everything from scratch!

  • 3. Swimming
    Aitutaki, Southern Cook Islands

If you are staying on the west side, there is a deep swimming hole just up the beach from Etu Moana, right near the grassy area. It's a great option to avoid the reefs as most of the west side is better for snorkeling than for swimming. Bring reef shoes unless your villas comes equiped.
And if all else fails, just relax on the beach! Even if it rains, its still warm!

  • 4. Church Services
    Aitutaki, Southern Cook Islands

Attend church at the Cook Islands Christian Church in the main town of Arutanga. The singing and acoustics in the church are quite incredible

  • 5. Dining Out
    Aitutaki, Southern Cook Islands

There are a limited number of restaurants on Aitutaki, but most have a few options so if you have to visit twice, you can try something new.

Although a vegetarian, I do eat fish, so I found lots to eat on Aitutaki. We did meet another couple and one was vegetarian. He was able to get a veggie meal at every restaurant.

The Boatshed has a fairly extensive menu with relatively reasonable prices for Aitutaki. They are located at the end of the runway, just to the left before you turn towards Samade and the Aitutaki Lagoon Resort.

Tapuna's is very quaint, with delicious meals, but a smaller menu. She is located in about the center of the island, so you might want to get a ride or scope it out in the daylight.

Pacific Resort had a good buffet on Island Night and their location on the west shore is quite incredible.

Cafe Tauono's was a great for lunch - Sonja just cooks what she has available (spinach omelette the day we went). She is located on the road from the airport to Arutanga, just past the Etu Moana Beach Villas.
