Our trip to Playa del Carmen. 2 adults in our 30s - no kids. Good mix of relaxation and activity.

La Tortuga Hotel & Spa, Playa del Carmen

The hotel we stayed at. Simply amazing at a great price! Check out the reviews on Trip Advisor for all the details.

    Chichen Itza

We were scheduled to go on a tour with Playa.info however got a call the night before the tour that our tour was canceled because the other couples canceled. So, we scrambled and got on one of the big tour buses - through Cancun lines. Chichen Itza itself was great. the mayan ruins were pretty spectacular and we felt, well worth the long drive out. If you are going to shop, wait until you go to Chichen Itza - the prices were much lower with the vendors in the park. I wouldnt recommend a giant bus tour. We are much more into the hands on, smaller tours and we were pretty disappointed with the giant bus experience. Overall, worth the trip - just either go on your own or find a smaller tour.

  • 3. Mayan Ruins of Tulum
    Ruinas Mayas de Tulum, Tulum

Amazing views and well worth the visit. Its more crowded than the other Mayan sites in the area but the combo of the ruins and ocean views are visual candy. Quick half-day trip from Playa del Carmen.

  • 4. Coba Ruins
    Coba Ruins, Coba

Mayan ruins that are very hands on. You can climb and walk around many of the structures. It is a big site with lots of walking, but you can rent bikes or rent a bike cab to take you around. You can negotiate for a tour guide at the entrance, but we thought it was really expensive and did just fine on our own. Worth the visit. Makes a good combo trip with Tulum.

Great Snorkeling trip to Akumal and Yal-Ku bay. Yal-Ku was AMAZING! Its like snorkeling in an aquarium. Akumal was nice to - saw turtles, rays, and a lot of fish. Great half day trip!

  • 6. El Fogon
    El Fogon, Playa del Carmen

Great food - truly a local's place. One of our favorite meals and definitely our cheapest (dinner for 2 with 3 beers for $17). Just a couple blocks walk from the main tourist street.

  • 7. Carboncitos
    Carboncitos, Playa del Carmen

    Another great restaurant.
