What I would do with a week long vacation this summer.... is RELAX somewhere in the caribbean or mexico.
I practically live for vacation; I work full-time as well as part-time, and am currently pursuing an MBA degree. My schedule is always jammed, and it doesn't get easier since I'm the one who makes sure my mom (age 83) is doing okay all the time. And I just became a grandmother myself!
Cane Garden Bay on Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. Beautiful beach dotted with reasonably priced beachfront restaurant/bars. It's not like being in a different time-zone; it's like being on a different planet. And I mean a very nice planet.
a source of quiet, relaxed invigoration and staff that really do go the extra mile... I still remember late one night being in an outdoor jacuzzi near a pool with my spouse and a bottle of wine... and a worker walked by... a few minutes later, he came back with a ladder, discretely adjusted the light away from the jacuzzi, and put the wine in an ice bucket filled with ice for us before disappearing into the night.
3. Aruba - Paso El Fino
horseback ride with the El Paso Fino stable on the beach... nice horses (not nags!), well-trained yet with spirit.
4. Saona Island
Catamaran to Saona (Paradise) island... another relaxing outing, it's something to be standing chest high in water seemingly miles away from land, and to be able to see starfish by your feet. Also, still in Domincan Republic, Iberostars Bavaro Suites resort, just relaxing near the peacocks and flamingos, reading a book for fun.
Medium to large-size property with lots of space for quiet walks as well as active areas around the swim-up bars. Good service. Secret's Excellence room category has two double-person jacuzzi's for each room - one on a private balcony, the other in the room - you can relax any which way you like that way! If you feel the need to really stretch your legs, try what I did one morning while my spouse slept in late - a sunrise morning walk from Secrets to the sleepy village of Puerto Morelos. I did this last year in August - walked from Secrets all the way into Puerto Morelos one fine morning, took interesting scenic pictures. That was a wonderful time to walk (about 5 miles) as the sun slowly came up.
Extensive property with lots of space for quiet walks as well as active areas around the swim-up bars and access to the other Iberostar resorts adjacent to the Lindo. Good food, good service, friendly staff. Try the honeymoon suite with a corner jacuzzi for two on the balcony.
